Paranoia and fear in low carb community

Please have a look at https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/60-seconds and the list of lovely things to eat, with a list of things to avoid or only eat very occasionally as a treat. https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/foods#foodlist Stay away from U-Tubers and stick to advice given on this forum...

Taking the 2nd AstraZeneca Jab ???

I had both my jabs at my local GP practice. I also was asked a lot more questions with my second A-Z jab and ticked them off the boxes on her computer screen. The first was with a nurse from my practice on a conveyor belt. In and out in a few minutes. The second was with a GP from my practice...

One for the ladies (sorry guys)

I was a similar age to you when I started the menopause. (perimenopause wasn't invented in those days and there were no tests for it). I suffered the same things - mood swings etc. My periods more or less stopped straight away. My GP put me on HRT because of my young age. I took HRT for 8 years...

What diabetes medicine are you currently taking?

I have been T2 for over 7 years and never had any medication. I am in remission and did this solely by changing to a low carb diet. I eat mainly meat, eggs, fish, dairy, some veg but not much, and nowadays can eat extra carbs such as lower carb toast and a few potatoes.

    Which OGTT?

I agree with @Ronancastled You need to eat in excess of 150g of carbs daily for at least 3 days prior to the test or the results will be skewed. Because of your current diet your pancreas is used to producing only small amounts of insulin as this is all that is needed when hardly any carbs are...

I don't know what's spiking my blood sugars

Why not stop testing your morning fasting for a period as this is making you anxious and really serves very little purpose. Instead you could concentrate on testing meals before and 2 hours after eating, and possibly before you get in bed. This will help you much more than testing your fasting...

Taking the 2nd AstraZeneca Jab ???

I am T2 and considerably older than you are. I have had 2 Astra-Zeneca jabs and am very thankful for them. After the first I was tired and achy for 24 hours from the following morning, with a sore arm when lifting it above my head for a week or two. With the second I had zero side effects, not...

    Diabetes management broken

If I were you, I would just ride it out. It is only temporary and has happened to many forum members.

    Pre diabetic and hate vegetables

You have had lots of excellent advice and suggestions above. As for me, I also dislike most green vegetables and have never been short of anything to eat. Meat, fish, eggs (loads of them), dairy etc. I have veggies once a week with my Sunday roast, and peas sometimes during the week, but that...

Type 2 What do your numbers look like?

You need to set your own targets as we all have different aspirations. You should test immediately before you eat and again 2 hours after first bite. It is preferable to keep any rise below 2mmol, and under 7.8mmol. Once you get the hang of things you can reduce your targets, and remember that...

    Newly diagnosed, questions

I agree with @bulkbiker that it is better to avoid any eating between meals, and stick to 2 or 3 meals a day. Each time we eat, especially if carbs are concerned, our pancreas sends out insulin to deal with the glucose in the system and the problem with most type 2 diabetics is we produce too...

    How am I doing?

It would help if you could tell us a few things so people can help you. Are you a Type 2? Which diabetes meds do you take (if any) and what measurement units are your levels of 0.48 to 0.50? Is this your HbA1c and should it be 48 to 50?

    Confused about diabetes appt.

That is possibly the case in most surgeries, but they should do them if they follow NICE guidelines when someone is found to have extremely high triglycerides. The guidelines say the test should be repeated after fasting. This indicates that a test for triglycerides should be fasting in the...

    Confused about diabetes appt.

I have passed my 7th diabetes anniversary and had 2 blood checks a year since then. I have always fasted - water only - for 12 to 14 hours beforehand. Originally we were told to fast for cholesterol/lipid tests, but in its wisdom NICE advised this was not necessary a few years ago. The reason...

Type 2 Not sure what else I can do to help myself

Your problem could be the fruit. Grapes are particularly bad for diabetics, also dried fruit such as raisins. This includes all fruit juices, fruit smoothies etc. The best fruits are berries such as strawberries and raspberries. Blueberries are higher in carb content but OK in small quantities...

    Type 2 Completely lost!

Yes, I agree. However, GP surgery on-line results won't necessarily show what the hospital test results were. She needs to ask for them separately.

    Type 2 Completely lost!

I am not surprised you were raging, and all the more reason you need copies of these blood test results and the correspondence between hospital and surgery. You need the actual levels of blood sugar so you know exactly where you are starting from. This is important if you are to have control of...

    Confused ☹️

Those levels don't seem bad at all considering the things you ate - none of which will be doing anybody's blood sugars any good, diabetic or not. An HbA1c test will sort it out for you.

    Medication

Please don't feel under pressure. It is your choice whether to take medication or not. It can only be offered - not forced. I suggest you ask nurse for 3 months grace and carry on as you were.
