    are salted peanuts allowed?

Mandya, If they work for you and don't cause any bg issues, stick with them! :) Still may need not to get too carried away and eat loads ;)

    Appetite suppressants

Sarah, What are your sugars today? I'm sure you are aware that pretty much everything on your list above is high carb with the exception of mushrooms, peas and carrots in that order. Are you seriously saying beef, lamb and pork are more expensive than the other items? I know that I can buy...

    Appetite suppressants

Sarah, Today's menu for hubby (and therefore me) so far has been: Fresh raspberries, pineapple, blackberries with Soya yoghurt and a good pouring of double cream on to make it taste lovely and rich? I then had a Spelt flour sesame cracker thing (4g carb from Holland & Barrett - again hubby...

    Is it possible...

Great news about your high cal meal Defren  Hopefully your body is getting accustomed to your meds :)

    Appetite suppressants

Sarah, Sorry to be harsh here but you are going to have to learn to like some of these foods! My husband is a notoriously fussy eater who loves meat and potatoes and plain food. We only discovered low carbing a couple of months ago and already he has come to like things he wouldn't eat...

    Is it possible...

2146 so quite a difference! I think it has to be my maths with xyzzy's - I was always useless at it at school!

    Is it possible...

Think I have done xyzzy's calcs wrong as it is giving me 3560 a day. Thinking about it though it maybe is what I ate pre LC'ing with hubby and my weight never really fluctuated much. Will do the RMR one and see what that says :)

    Meat Alternatives

Unless I am mistaken, beef is zero carb? Or are you looking at it from the 'too much red meat angle'?

    HBA1C

Grazer, I thought anything under 7.0 for a diabetic was OK?

    HBA1C

By the way are you sure it was 507 and not 50.7. I'm pretty new to all this too but I'm sure that is how it is shown? If it was it would make it somewhere around 6.5% which is good?? Don't take anything I say as gospel though, it could be the blind leading the blind!

    HBA1C

Newbie, Somewhere on the internet there is a page where you can convert this number. I was looking at it yesterday but I cleared my history last night and can't remember what it was :( I seem to recall that they (the NHS?) changed the way they reported it last year and there was a...

    Different terms for HBA1C?

He's 66 ;) We have always been generally fit but it does go in peaks and troughs! We are currently in training for a charity cycle ride we do in Texas where we have to do 200 miles in 2 days (thankfully pretty flat!) We did 65 on Saturday and he could eat what he wanted en route because he...

    Different terms for HBA1C?

Oh and I forgot to say she has taken him off 1 of his metformin, he just has to take a morning one now (500mg) He is on other meds for BP and cholesterol. We will tackle those issues when we have the bg well under control! I think both those are being helped by LC too?

    Different terms for HBA1C?

Grazer, He was diagnosed years ago and has never been able to get his bg's down - that was before we knew about low carbing though ;) I did ask him to ask the doctor what his previous reading was so we could get a comparison (it would be high - his meter was always into the teens before we...

    Different terms for HBA1C?

sorry, posted before I'd finished there! His 5.5 mmol/L was great so happy with that.

    Different terms for HBA1C?

Grazer, I believe it was supposed to be a fasting blood test but hubby didn't realise and had his breakfast  The first line is Plasma Glucose level which is 5.5. There is nothing with IFCC

    Different terms for HBA1C?

My husband has just come back from the docs with a print out of his blood test. I was looking to see what his HBA1C was as it seems to be the measurement people use but I cannot see it anywhere on the sheet. There are a whole list of tests with numbers and letters and lots of result numbers...

    I can eat a scone

We have worked out that hubby can also eat half a scone as long as he is doing something, the other day we shared one and then he went back out to the garden and was digging and such and his reading afterward was good. He seems to be one of the fortunate ones that exercise will bring it down...

    lazy or good plan

I'd be interested in your results MaryJ :) My husband has significantly lowered his BG's by low carbing and consistent regular exercise. We walk usually about 30 mins per time, about 1.5 to 2 miles after dinner and it makes a big difference to his readings. Whether it will remain that way I...
