    Blood Pressure Explained

Thanks for the great medical lesson. :-) So, as a student, I would ask if there are different types of hypertension: e.g. thickening of the arteries (atherosclerosis), age-related state of the arteries, elasticity of the arteries, and on the other hand causes for any of those physical...

    Blood Pressure Explained

What is the role of the heart's pumping force in blood pressure? Does stress increase heart rate for example? And if so, would sedatives lower blood pressure by lowering heart rate or force?

    Type 2 and menopause

I think we should distinguish menopausal symptoms from high blood sugar, and the timing of your symptoms may give you a clue. Menopause has an effect on estrogen (lowers it I think) and night sweats until you stabilize, are common.

Sorry to think that it's "permanent".

    Autonomic Neuropathy

I wonder if it's not possible to have neuropathy with hypoglycemia, as well as the commonly reported hyperglycemia. I notice that my a.m. switch insulin, instead of bed time, reveals a hypo spike which may not be noticeable at night, if there is such a thing as reactive hyperglycemia; maybe the...

How much insulin do you take?

Interesting, that different insulins should have different effects; if I get a chance to meet a diabetician, that would be a good question. Thank you

It's the "N" word: Neuropathy. I think I may have it, but it could entrapped spine nerves or even anxiety. What kind of tests were used for you?

How much insulin do you take?

Hi ickihun, thank you for the detailed post and your reflections of reducing insulin. Insulin dose is a bit of a mystery to me. I am presently reducing it from 40ishes to 30-33 to avoid night time hypos. I am also taking it in the morning now instead of at night. So far the blood sugars are...

    Carbohydrates

She sounds sensible to me. The number of carbs may after all be safe within you meter reading for blood sugar. And hypos at night are something to worry about.

    Thyroid issues.

Did you find a change in activity or mood according to changes in your thyroid dose?

    Thyroid issues.

I'm type 2. There is a change of overactivity since med switches; but I should have added that I am addicted to clonazepam for more that 3 decades (steady minimum dose), and that may be a factor if it is time to increase it.

How much insulin do you take?

Thanks for the update on international trends EllieM. I did have more diabetic supervision from my now retired doctor (40 yrs. bless her). My new dr.'s forte does not seem to be diabetic specialties. But wait.... it just occurred to me-- those nasty nightly hypos; why did my past dr...

How much insulin do you take?

Wow! Had a nasty hypo last night; I felt so weak and had respiratory depression; struggled to recover; I think I am taking too high a dose, but I have never been monitored; followed Oxford Diabetic Care booklet; reducing by 50% tonight as I have the glyclazides. I didn't know that type 2's do...

    Autonomic Neuropathy

I may have, but I have not been tested. What kind of test did you get? I am suspecting too high insulin for some yrs. having similar effects to neuropathy, along with hyperactive side effects, insomnia, etc. Do you take insulin?

    Sleeping with the light on?

Maybe they've got it the other way around: people with diabetes and heart disease sleep with light on sometimes.
