    1st Christmas as a Diabetic

As my doctor won't supply testing gear I have no idea what Christmas dinner did to my bg levels, so I just had one teeny roast potato but two helping of pud as we were doing a taste test, Aldi v Sainsburys best. Aldi won hands down. Also had mince pie and brandy sauce. Well they put the diabetic...

Type 2 getting low BG readings, what does it mean?

Am I not in danger of going hypo if it drops lower ? I tend to forget to eat quite often, my husband reckons I go 'fluffy' if I've not eaten.

Type 2 getting low BG readings, what does it mean?

I am on Metformin, my last Hba1c was 6.1. I don't get strips on prescription in spite of trying all the wheedling and intelligent argument tactics with GP, so testing occasionally. Recently I've found that I have really quite low post prandial readings, less than 4 sometimes 3.3 Is this...

CAN MY GP REFUSE TO PRESCRIBE SUNDRIES FOR MY BG METER?

The practise nurse I saw recently on another matter asked me how my sugars were. She was a bit taken aback when I said How am I supposed to know? She admitted that GP practises get £3000 per diabetic who they manage to get below a certain HBa1c reading. It strikes me they'd have more success if...

not sure whether I should be offended or not

I think I would be annoyed at being 'outed' in public more than anything else. Being diabetic is my business and that of those whom I choose to tell. Not that there's any shame attached to it of course before anyone jumps in :-) Someone did it to me on face book, I was so annoyed, particularly...

    Too much weight loss

Not deliberately active as in very little exercise other than busy walking around at work, I take a two hour walk on Saturday and Sunday and am quite restless until after dinner when I slob out on the the sofa. Not keen on fatty milk, it tastes like oil to me.

    Too much weight loss

I am type 2 and not overweight, on Metformin and simvastatin. I've dropped loads of weight which is fine except none of my jeans fit anymore, but I am in danger of losing too much. What the heck can I eat to prevent me turning into a skellybone? I have cereal with fruit and skimmed milk for...

    Type 2 free monitor?

My doctor won't issue me with a bg monitor nor test strips, if I apply to Abbot for one of their free ones are they likely to turn me down as I am type 2? Has anyone received one or been turned down?

    Alcohol and Metformin

I have read that Metformin is not a good idea for alcoholics. I don't drink very often and haven't had even a sniff of the bar maids apron since type 2 diagnosis but I want to be able to go out with some lovely new friends whose favourite place to go is a Belgian Beer Cellar, I would only have a...

type 2 and now high cholesterol

This is very worrying, I was put straight on to 1000mg Metformin then two weeks later in spite of my cholesterol being the lowest its been in years at 5.8 was whapped straight on to 40mg simvastatin. Starting to think it's best not to read anything anymore. Don't despair, it sounds like you've...

    A day in denial

Since my T2 diagnosis and being turned down for testing equipment I have been deeply regretting not having all the lovely things in the bakery aisle when I could have. I always deprived myself thinking No, Be good, it'll make you fat, (which I am not). Now I wish I had. Well today I did, a...

    blood monitor

I am the same as you, type 2 on Metformin and the DN said no to testing full stop. I queried this and she said anything you eat will cause a glucose rise and to leave it to the Hbac1 test to judge how I am doing. I pointed out that that is three months away and I could be getting it totally...

Low carbs high fat on Statins advice please

I am three weeks on from type 2 revelation and now on statins and metformin, my bg was so high I wasn't given the opportunity to try diet and exercise alone. The question is, will a low carb plus high fat diet be detrimental to my high cholesterol reading or do the statins offset it? Sent from...

    newly diagnosed

Hi Jayne I was weepy too three weeks ago when I was diagnosed. My diabetes nurse has said not to get paranoid it's not a death sentence and you won't drop dead from eating a biscuit once in three weeks. Just cut out the sugary things and processed carbs like pastry and white bread and pasta for...
