Does this happen to anyone else?

I normally eat fairly low carb - less than 60 grams most days. As well as being a type 2 I have fibromyalgia, arthritis and chronic fatigue. Yesterday I went out to lunch at Slattery's in Bury. It is a wedding cake maker place and is known to be chocolate heaven. I ate loads more carbs than...

    No Hypos on low carb

For a good 5 years before I was a type 2 diabetic I would get shaky, sweaty and incoherent when I went too long without eating. Once diagnosed and using a bg meter I found that if my bg fell below 4.5% then I would go shaky, sweaty and incoherent. I was told by the doctor that they weren't...

    A Very Happy Doctor

Finally my doctor thinks that the way I'm eating - no more than 50 grams of carbs a day is good. When I first went low carb he sighed and said that as I'd lost 4 stone before by eating low calorie, why didn't I do that again. You see I'd put the weight back on because it's difficult to live on...

    Low carbing

Yesterday I read this thread viewtopic.php?f=24&t=8913 on 'Why I don't follow a low carb diet', and it got me thinking. I follow a low carb diet, as do a lot of others, and I think if we put our reasons why we do so, then most of them would be exactly the same as the ones for not following...

    Hba1c & cholesterol result

I've been to see my doctor this morning, following the bloods that were taken a couple of weeks back by the nurse who had a go about not eating enough starchy carbs or taking my statin. My blood glucose was just under 8% in March and is now 5.9%. My LDL is up a little, but he said I could...

    Can anyone recommend a Pillow

I know this might sound off-topic but I'm getting lots of neck and shoulder pain and interrupted sleep due to pillow problems and it does affect my bg control; apart from anything else it makes me depressed. :( I've spent a fortune on pillows over the years. The most recent being a £55...

Yet another DSN who isn't a lot of use

I've been to see the Nurse for a Diabetes check this morning. She started off by telling me how wrong I was not to be taking a statin, even if my cholesterol is very low as a diabetic I MUST take a statin. Then we moved on to how bad a low carb diet was and where I could cut the carbs back...

    A couple of questions

If I am hungry in the night when does my liver dump glucose - immediately or when I get up (or there abouts)? I am on a low-carb diet which means that I'm in ketosis (I hope) most of the time - so where does my liver get the glucose from to dump? Or does it dump fat to burn? Thanks in advance...

    Greetings from MTT

Hi all, I've been a type two diabetic for over 10 years, but have found that following a 'healthy diet' my control has been slipping, which is more than can be said for my weight, so I'm now low carbing; losing weight and getting my blood sugar back under control. Type 2, and obesity run in...
