Lower carb diet and Fatty Liver Gone

No carbs is the place to start; I mean zero, none, nada. You have to get your body to consume its own fat especially that lofged in your pancreas, and the only way to do that is to starve your body of carbs. It took me about 15 days to 'cure' my diabetes, 23 to get my numbers back to non...

Lower carb diet and Fatty Liver Gone

Like Adelle, I too have effectively 'cured' my diabetes. I am no longer on medication and all my blood work is now in the normal range. My BP is also once again normal, this morning 137/84! This is all as a result of the same diet and exercise as detailed here. It really does work.

    Mediterranean diet curbs diabetes

Horta grows wild in Corfu and the locals pick it from the roadside whenever they see it. It tastes like strong spinach and has long green leaves. The diet in Corfu is becoming more Westernised but if you find an elderly local he will be eating the classic Med diet; bread, cheese, fish, tomato...

    Getting better at bread

Hanadr, I've been searching the threads for more info on the magic bread. My problem is that I am living in Thailand so I can't get the packaged stuff. Are you allowed to give us the recipe or is it a secret? Even typing Fergus bread in the search facility doesn't help! Maybe you could pm it to...

    Help

Hi Spike. I am an amateur here Spike so this is the simple approach. I hope the experts don't mind me posting this!?! As written here in so many threads, reducing carbs is the way to go to control your BG numbers. Try to get it down to 50gms a day, which isn't much! Two slices of wholemeal...

    Help with nightime snacks please!

A couple of slices of ham and cheese. If I must have a crunchy base I sparingly use Ryvita. That and a handful of nuts or raisins seems to do the trick.

    Higher waking BG

I didn't mean to imply that everyone should exercise first thing in the morning. But I have been checking pre and post swim numbers on a random basis and they always show a reduction of between 1.2 to 1.6. I didn't know that exercise might raise the BG numbers. I will monitor it more regularly now!

    Higher waking BG

I had the same problem but found that a couple of Ryvita with a slice of cheddar cheese an hour before bedtime seemed to do the trick. Most mornings my numbers went from 7 or so down to 6 at 0700. I am lucky that I can have a swim whenever I wish. I find that if I measure at 0630, before a...

    What is safe to eat/drink???

It's a pity if you have let diabetes take away the joy of eating. You need to be positive, do some more dietary research and get cracking on some of the recipes posted here, vegetarian or not. There are so many interesting foods from all over the world that you can enjoy. Curries with non carb...

    Your diabetic team

I didn't have a team! Boo Hoo. Told I had type II and given a list of drugs I might like to study. No information on a visit to the diabetic nurse, no pamphlets, no nothing. Overworked clinic in central Bristol with loads of patients in the waiting room might have something to do with it Thank...

    5% Club

Praise. Didn't know where to post this

Broads, just as a matter of interest, what regime is working for you? Like you, I read that some things are good on one thread and not so good on another, fruit being my bugbear. I love them all! I stick to low carbs but have only just seen the item about eating a cheese/ham on Ryvita at night...

How much alcohol does everyone drink?

More than I should but as much as it takes! A couple of beers before dinner followed by up to a bottle of red for the rest of the evening. I know it's too much but it's all I have left of my vices! No sugar, no smoking, lots of excercise and fresh air. I've never been fitter!

    Breakfast

I start the day with fresh fruit. My dear wife slices and dices a bowl with grapes, banana, apple, strawberries, until recently or berries etc. Drop a few spoons of yoghurt on top and enjoy! If I need any carbs then I will add a slice of toast and Marmite for dessert!

    Newly diagnosed TypeII

Hello, I hope someone can help me. I am new to this so please be patient. I am looking for a simple list of basic foodstuffs which are either 'good' or 'bad', and if bad, is there an alternative? For instance, I can't find out if honey is a safe substitute for sugar. Many thanks, Rubik
