    Glucosamine

There'a a warning that this *may* increase your BG. In practice I've come across a few people who react to it but many more who don't, so try it and test. May take a few weeks to have an effect though, and again it doesn't work for everyone. My GP recommends it with some success. She reckons...

Hi can anyone help me regarding animal insulin?

These guys might help http://www.iddtinternational.org/ Over the years I've met a few people who have successfully made the change but none of them post here. They were all obstructed at first but no-one had the gall to refuse them information when they were finally prescribed the pork or...

Galvus- vildagliptin ??? Can't do metformin it made me ill

In a word, money. Metformin is cheap. No medication is even cheaper. All other alternatives including insulin are pricier.

    medication or not...?

Good plan! Similar I've dropped my simvastatin because I want to see my unmedicated lipids. I'm quite prepared to restart it should I need to and I don't appear to have gained or lost any side effects from it. Well like all drugs sometimes it actually does have significant effects at minimum...

    A Visit To The Doctor....

"Doctor doctor, I'm allergic to penicillin" "Don't ever take it again!" "Doctor doctor, I'm allergic to carbs!" "Eat more carbs to control your BG" hmmm . . .

Background retinopathy after only 18 months and high glucose

I suspect Hana is right (as usual!) you are eating far too many carbs which is keeping your BG up. It's possible that the high lipids this produces may be causing gallstones, or you may have NAFLD - Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease - which should be reversible with tight BG control. Either way...

    Forum Suggestion

IMO MODY is rare enough that a link to the world's leading research site is probably the best plan http://www.ex.ac.uk/diabetesgenes/index.htm LADA is probably similar enough to Type 1 except for the later onset and often slower progression that you'd probably be better off in the Type 1 forum...

Proof that they do exist, contrary to the opinions of some! See if you can sneak out some of their DNA and clone them

    2 Decades - and a broken leg

Could have been worse, a friend went on a walking holiday in the Peak District and fell down the hotel stairs before she ever had time to walk anywhere! Seriously, sympathies! Oh and watch out for those concrete cows, I knew another Type 1 in MK but haven't heard from him for a long time

Rare? type two - not overweight, healthy life style?

This protocol has been around for nearly a decade now and was devised by diabetics so naturally there has not been an RCT http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.com/2009/ ... -test.html Initially I tested a lot, if you read around Alan's site you will understand why: the key is to use the meter...

    New Type 2 Intro

Unfortunately the website where this protocol was discussed went down when the owner died and the information has not yet been reinstated anywhere else, there were several supporting references. Some people regard EPO as being proinflammatory but I haven't read much negative about ALA at all...

    Another one

Try this http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.com/2006/10/d-day.html then have a look through the Stickies and Success Stories threads Once you get your blood sugar down you will find the exercise (and staying awake!) much easier. Once you can do more exercise this will probably help in the long...

    I love this forum!

Make the most of it before the Zealots have it closed down I suggest at least downloading and storing the Success Stories thread and some of the Stickies. Oh and the recipes while they are still here.

Dietician advised me to eat at least 270g of carbohydrate!

That's actually something I'm not alone in noticing: how aggressive and angry the anti-low-carbers often are, and not just here.

Oily Fish - How do I avoid Salt?

Depending who you believe, the population of sodium sensitive hypertensives is between 10 - 30% yet we are ALL told to eat less salt, apparently this is now causing goitres in the States since it means people are cutting their iodine consumption through not eating iodised salt. Probably less of...

I suspect you'll both get there given time, you're both heading in the right direction at a reasonable speed.

    low readings before bed?

In a word, yes. The long version - IMO he really needs some closer supervision, does he have a DSN or someone he can ring/email with his numbers?
