    Cinnamon and other supplements

Hi there, Use cinnamon powder myself, it has been used for thousands of years in ayurvedic medicine to help maintain glucose levels. I use the powdered version, about £2.99 for quite a large pot of it from Indian food shop, although I have heard chewing the actual bark is effective too. I...

    Why this forum is GOOD

This forum is good as it has helped me keep my mind open, and that the one size fits all package does not work for everyone. I have learnt a lot from just reading but also from helpful members giving their thoughts on any issues I have posted. Great knowledge base. :)

    HbA1c and Complications

I am quite confused now, not that I wasn't before. I thought, no lets correct that, my GP told me that the HbA1c is actual and you can not cheat it, it measures the actual glucose stuck to heamoglobin or whatever over the last 3 months. :?:

Newly diagnosed type 2 metformin ?

Hi there, I have been dx for 3 months and told to take 2 mets a day. As other people have said I get tummy rumbles etc but it is bearable so far. But as others have wisely said, cut down completely on sugary foods and drinks, this would include some fruits - Orange Juice contains nearly same...

How tightly is glucoze controlled in non diabetic ?

Might sound a silly question, but I want to know, because my GP tells me that after eating a high carb meal everyones (diabetics and non diabetics) BG would go up over 7, but in non diabetics it would be below 7 within 2 hours. Is this right? I hope so, because: I thought that in non...

    I'm confused about my readings

Same thing happened with me soon after dx. I woke up and took read at 8.00am, it was about 5.2, then I had doctors appointment at 11.00am, and I did not eat anything and my sugars had risen to 6.4 at 10.45. I told my GP and he said don't worry, everybody's BG rises naturally to some extent...

    Flu and pneumonia jabs

To add, before dx, I got the flu in April 08, and it was the worst ever, 3 weeks of fever and just feeling rubbish, had funny white stuff downstairs, and GP diagnosed as malaise and thrush, but no diabetes dx gave me anti biotics, made the thrush worse, and me worse. So in hindsight getting the...

    Flu and pneumonia jabs

I have had flu jab first time this year about 4 weeks ago, and no side effects to date, maybe a very slight fever the first 2 nights. Then I was offered the pneumonnia, almost pressured, so I said I'd think about it. Thanks to the advice on these forums, and others experiances, I had it done...

What did you do for World Diabetes Day?

I am really sorry, but was this on 16/11/2008, if so then I did not really do anything beneficial for all diabetics, but it would explain why there was a free roadshow on heart awareness offering free cholesterol and bmi checks, bmi checks etc. I went to that. :)

Cheapest place to get test strips

Hello All, Wanted to ask please, if anyone has any ideas as to where to source the cheapest test strips for Glucomen LX machine. My GP will not scribe these to type 2's, reason, they (GP's practice) do all the testing I will need done every 3 months, and home testing is pointless as it only...

Why is GP considering increasing Metformin for me?

Thanks v much Jem and all other responders. Thats what I'm doing with the statins, taking the script but not the meds, I have also decided to drop to one metformin a day for a week or two, and closely monitor my BG at home. I am just so sure that cutting the astronomical sugar intake before...

One Large Donner Kebab (with extra butter) Please

Re: One Large Donna Kebab (with extra butter) Please Sounds similar to the Atkins diet, where all carbs are cut out, but you can eat as much fat as you want, sounds great if it helps with BG levels, but does this have any effect on cholesterol levels - i.e. extra saturated fat, or am I missing...

Cholesterol Reading and what it means

Hello all, When you have your cholesterol checked and they give you your result as x mm/l, is this like a a1c were its your cholesterol over the last 3 months, or is it like the home BG monitoring, where it gives the read for the specific time you tested. The reason I ask is to find out if...

    Comparison of Blood Glucose Monitors/Meters

I got a leflet from the local chemist for a new Glucomen LX, just rang them for more info, they took my details, next day, they have sent a brand new meter for me. I find it much better than the one touch ultra, as I found it tricky getting the blood into the strip, with the Glucomen its like...
