Having had diabetes 2 for over 25 years (now aged 70) I am starting to inject Lantus and would appreciate hearing of others' experiences concerning dosage. I inject Lantus at bedtime, increasing the unit dose by two each time. I am now, after six weeks, dialling 40 units and getting nowhere...

    Diabetes.co.uk email depressing updates

They are at it again: today's email from Diabetes Uk repeats the same headline. Key Statistics on Diabetes[5], that the life expectancy of someone with type 2 diabetes is likely to be reduced, as a result of the condition, by up to 10 years. People with type 1 diabetes can expect their...

GP'S banned from prescribing costly diabetes drugs

I have been on Byetta for over two years and it has worked wonders and I had lost two stone and improved my blood sugars. On a recent visit to the diabetic clinic my weight had increased by two or three pounds and my blood sugars (Hb1ac) had remained the same over the previous three month...

Don't believe all the doctors say...

Do some consultant doctors not have a clue? At my local diabetic clinic the diabetic consultant spied a banana in my bag. He asked what it was for and I informed him that I always tried to carry a banana in case of a hypo. He scowled and warned me that bananas are full of sugar - and that is...

    itchy

Hi Sue - some Health Trusts might not encourage self testing owing to cost of providing strips. (£25 a tub of 24?) Or it might merely apply to that particular practise. However most are enlightened. Perhaps the best route is to request a visit to your area/hospital diabetic centre for a...

Re: Anyone use Byetta? To those of us who worry about injecting and needles. I was told by my nurse that it hurts much LESS than the everyday finger prick when testing blood sugars. And it's TRUE. It does hurt less. Sometimes it is virtually painless. It's all in the mind. I tend to not look...

    byetta injection problem

Congrats for making a start. I count elephants up to twelve to stop me rushing. ("One elephant, two elephant, three elephant..." etc!) And yes - there's always a little blob left on the end. I have been on it for almost six months now and it has worked well for me.

    Swine flu and Byetta injections

Best to be prepared (sigh). If I am taken ill (with swine flu) and feel unable to eat more than a couple of biscuits should I still inject my usual Byetta twice a day? Thanks.

Re: Anyone use Byetta? Tina I am exactly like you - I was on 5mcg for 4 weeks (no side effects) and have now been on 10 for almost 2 weeks and feel dizzy, nauseus, and COLD. I suddenly feel very cold and start to shiver, then my blood reading has dropped to 3.4 - usually mid evening. I was on...

Re: Anyone use Byetta? I have now been on Byetta for 5 weeks and 'promoted' to the 10 microgram brigade. (I am type 2) No side effects, good weight loss (8lbs), and have halved my amaryl to 2 mg. (Metformin still at 3000 gm per day). My morning BG remains unaccountably at 8.5 despite not...
