I wish they'd stop with the lifestyle line

Well, shucks, thanks :smug:, I am indeed VERY happy, but I wouldn't want you to think badly if you didn't do quite as well, I've found it easy, but everyone's metabolism is different and I've had many advantages - my wife joined me on the LCHF, we both do a lot of cooking and love experimenting...

I wish they'd stop with the lifestyle line

There's loads of lifestyle choices that lead to disease or disability, it's weird that some of them are seen as our own fault, while others are fine. If you're off work a lot for having diabetes, you'll find that they'll haul you up before HR and discuss improvements you can make to prevent...

    Bread!

It's pretty awful tasting though, and makes lousy toast. I'm also a fan of Lidl protein rolls. I can eat 2 without going over 7. Burgen is great as toast and really tasty. They do a small size one too, which is about 2/3rds the carbs.

    Depressed

Well, that's a GREAT improvement - you're not only headed in the right direction, but you seem to have pretty good numbers now. Whatever you're doing - keep doing it! There's a chart which shows the various numbers - you'll see yours look to be in the light orange range, which is pre-diabetic...

    Can use some help

I wouldn't go that far. There are many doctors and dietitians who do keep up with the latest research and understand about low carb diets. The problem is that medicine can move too slowly. It's good that it is cautious, and doesn't jump on some mad theory that becomes popular with no evidence...

    Can use some help

What's your weight like? Do you need to get your BMI down - there seems to be an effect where your liver is what's most insulin resistant - one of the important jobs of insulin is to tell the liver to stop pumping out glucose when it's already at a high level, but having a fatty liver will make...

Think I have prediabetes and neuropathy. Scared

Even if you did get a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes, it's nothing to be scared of. For me, I now think it's probably something that saved my life. After a number of years of having type 2, receiving medication and not really having any of the problems resulting from it, it was very gradually...

Type 1: 6 Month Tour of Europe

Doesn't help your situation, but I went to Venice a few years back and forgot my Metformin, I went to a local chemist while I was there to see if I could get it over the counter - no problem at all, and it cost.....£1.10 for a month's supply. I know you can get many meds in various european...

Diabetone (Vitamins Supplement Specifically For Diabetics)

My feelings too, on both counts. My worry about Vitamin supplements is that people use them as a an alternative to eating healthily - fresh food. They think they can balance the books by eating **** and drinking, smoking etc, but necking some vitamins or having a Berocca. I think there may well...

    Had it

Yeah, after I started writing... But it's useful to put in your personal info is my point, as some threads get too big to read every post.

Those figures are very high, by the way, I'm sure your doctor/diabetic nurse isn't aiming for you to have a BG level that high, so you should definitely be talking to them. By the way, it's really helpful if you put the type of diabetes you have in your personal info, so that people can tailor...

    Smoking or non smoking

I'm not the kind of person to telegraph a joke by putting emoticons and stuff, but I was jokingly referring to the generally excepted stereotype of ex-smokers as feeling superior and self-righteous, and also trying to give encouragement to the OP about one of the ways in which they'll be happier...

They're only stupid once you've given up yourself and can look down on them. It helps to think like that so that you are dissuaded from starting again.

    Can anyone tell me ...

If you ever catch me 'lolling' unless it's in real life, then kill me. In fact, if I ever actually say the word 'lol' IRL instead of actually laughing, also kill me - and anyone else who says it.

They make up stuff that makes a good headline to get you to click through - shoddy behaviour in general.

    Smoking or non smoking

It's the single most important health related improvement you can make. Don't TRY to give up, just give up. Now Don't mess about with vaping and patches and stuff. Just tell yourself that's it, you've stopped and don't smoke any more, there'll never be a better time than now, don't wait for...
