    Shirataki Noodles

Newbienosugar, Whilst you are on an Oriental theme foodwise may I suggest you try 'cauliflower rice' as well. I absolutely love curry and can make a very very mean one indeed. I was so glad I found a rice substitute so I can still enjoy curry!

    Shirataki Noodles

Hi, I bought some of those noodles last year from this place. If you can't see them on the site I would give them a ring. I definitely bought them on-line from them. http://www.japanesefoodshop.co.uk/index.asp

    a Far East trip.

I only wish I could say 'whenever you like'!! I don't know whether or not you know the Philippines well or not. We have a nice little place by the sea in what is a non touristy area on Mindanao. It is nice there but not without its problems. Earthquakes are fairly common and recently an area...

    a Far East trip.

That's fantastic news!!!! Yes - it is the water that I was referring to. I honestly never knew that it was such a good drink!!! I am so so glad I love the stuff. It is so much more 'quaffable' when the 'water' is from a young coconut- can be a tad bitter when it is old. When I have made...

    a Far East trip.

cugila, Thanks. I agree with you on that. Anyway, I've got to 'live' whilst I am there!! It's going to be difficult enough not having rice as they have that at almost every single meal, including breakkers!! I just hope I can get some cauliflowers in the market. I am so glad I love fish--...

cugila, Thanks for that. plenty of avocados in the Philippines- mus remember to take some balsamic vinegar now. Have you any idea about the 'coconut milk'? One of my favourite drinks in the morning is to break open a fresh young coconut and collect the milk in a jug. I then add some of the...

Re: a Far East trip. Avocados Does anyone know what Avocados are like - carbohydrate-wise? I am still trying to sort of this fruit thing before we go. What about coconuts? Thanks, Pete

clearviews, Many thanks for that. 'Green mango' is eaten as a sort of snack in the Philippines and is eaten mostly with a sort of 'salted fish' dip. Green Papaya is also eaten a lot and mostly as a papaya pickle which is delicious. We have lots and lots of papaya in our garden out in the...

Phoenix, Many thanks for that very comprehensive list which is going to be very helpful indeed. I am suprised by the carb content so I will have to be a tad careful. I'll do regular blood sugar tests to find out which is best for me. I do love fresh papaya sprinkled with lime juice--...

Very interesting. Papaya 6gms per 100gms seems OK for me. That is normally the standard I use when buying stuff etc over here. I guess I would eat about 300gms a day. Any ideas on any other tropical fruit please. Thanks, Pete

    a Far East trip.

Hi, I will be out in the Philippines next year Feb/March for 5 weeks. I obvioulsy want to continue my low carbing which has been successful for me so far in terms of blood sugar count and weight loss. It's going to be difficult as rice and noodles are eaten in abundance. I just hope I can...

    Wetherspoons Pubs.

Agreed but I would give them time for the low carb symbols. One step at a time. I still think they have done a great service to us all. I haven't tried to ask for extra salad or veg in lieu of chips. I just don't eat the chips. I'll try that next time I go in, which isn't that often. I...

    Wetherspoons Pubs.

Doczoc, I think you missed completely the point I was making. They are , I think, the only pub chain to have sorted out the nutrient values of all their meals which is of benefit to some of us. Whether it is not for you is of no consequence really as that is your opinion. I was basing my...

weight loss plateau - any ideas?

So can we say all veg other than root veg? The reason I say that is that I eat quite a bit of roast veg and stir fry veg that includes red/yellow/orange/green peppers etc. I have to say that I become very 'regular' toiletwise after eating it so , I guess, that confirms the theory. Am I right...

weight loss plateau - any ideas?

I read that thead and wanted to ask a question but it is 'locked'. I'll ask it here. The only truly GOOD carb for a diabetic is Cellulose, which we can’t digest at all. It’s dietary fibre, or roughage and keeps the gut working, giving it something to push on Can someone please suggest what...

I tend to do what you do anticarb. However with one exception and that was with the Gourmet Kitchen Burger. I was at the one in Cardiff Bay. They were not understanding at all. Mind you it probably was due to a 'language' difficulty if you can read between the lines. Even once on a motorway...

I think he is a Kiwi and went to that school in New Zealand. Personally, I say 'hats off' to Tim Martin and I wish him all the best. Other than having a leaflet to help us lot he also helps local breweries which the local pubs tend not to do.
