I would say no. Did they say why? Suspected wrongly diagnosed?

    Type 1 problems??? Help please

Yes in the early days this is usual. He needs to check his blood before each meal and if the reading is high then inject a little more insulin, if it is low then inject a little less. Also he really needs to know how many carbs he is eating at each meal and adjust the insulin also to suit that...

    Sooooo Confused.

I was similar to you and insisted on tests for type 1. I was right - they were wrong. Have you had the tests?

    how low can you go?

Thanks for that Phoenix. Understand it a little better now and reduced fear of some spikes somewhat. Also should give some understanding to those who report intolerance to cereal in the morning but can take them later. Lost it a little in the middle but will listen a few more times to try and...

    how low can you go?

After not very extensive research Wikipedia gives non diabetic readings of 3.6 to 5.8 mMol/L with a mean of readings of 5mMol/L. I would like to maintain non diabetic readings as far as is possible. Does anyone have any more scientific data for non diabetic levels?

    4.0 a bit too low?

I too am happy to see a 4 on my meter, in fact I almost aim for it. If you are low carb low insulin and not swinging about all over the place then it should be managable - but again in context as exercise could send it lower or if it is still falling it needs watching. I get hypo sensations...

My letter to DUK in response to complaints on this forum abo

Here is a reply I received 3 months ago. We are sorry to hear that you don’t agree with our dietary advice, but I would like to reassure you that our advice is based on current research and is also in line with recommendations given by the Food Standards Agency. Diabetes UK have commissioned...

    help with understanding insulin types

My son was diagnosed 6 years ago and was put on Novomix 30 and has stayed on it. He accepts the advice given him and is happy with his control. I was diagnosed in Feb this year initially as Type 2 so went straight on Low Carb. Didn't like results and managed to get myself reclassified Type 1...

    Low carb dieting not working

As regards coffee - have you tried it with Double Cream and no sweetener? That's the way I have it. Often!!!

    injections

Not been at this too long myself but those are serious doses of insulin. I believe that there is a relationship with body weight but for Levemir not with carb intake. I think a reduction at night looks as if it could be in order to reduce the morning numbers if they are consistently lowering. My...

    storage and use of insilin

Don't keep insulin pens etc. in the fridge because the low temperature slows the action of the insulin, keep them at ambient room temperature, not too hot, not too cold. The pens Fergus refers to here are the refillable ones. Prefilled pens should be stored in the Fridge - except for the one...

Off premix, On to basal/bolus, Help!

I think the health proffesionals will always start you low and build up to avoid hypos. I have recently switched and since mixed is 70% long acting I expected to be put on 70% of my mixed dose but it was lower than this. I have recently upped the starting dose but have introduced it in the...

Just posted in another thread. I use buttocks for basal and stomach or legs for bolus. Seems to work well.

    Levemir - a few questions!

I have to admit that I am fairly new to Levemir but I am finding that it is working well. I am injecting about 3 1/2 to 4 hours after my last Novorapid each day (As I think that is the time the Novorapid lasts). I inject the Levemir in the buttocks as that is the place I believe to provide the...
