Confused about my doctors/consultants advice, am I type 1.5?

Hi Christi, Sorry to hear about your cholesterol profile. Sounds like potentially your high blood glucose has caused the rise. Could be temporary increase due to insulin resistance swapping from VLCD to a more carb diet. I have noticed if I eat too much my blood sugar rise a lot so I eat smaller...

Confused about my doctors/consultants advice, am I type 1.5?

Hi guys, Its been awhile since I last posted so I wanted to update you on my progress. To help you remember I had gone VLCD to treat my diabetes which still at the moment is unknown (85% fat, 10% protein, 5% carbs) and this had a dramatic effect on my cholesterol. I saw a dietician who gave...

Confused about my doctors/consultants advice, am I type 1.5?

I eat a lot of saturated fat (heavy cream, whipped cream, Greek yoghurt, fatty cuts of meat such as pork, cheese), I don't really eat coconut oil as its too expensive. I limit the amount of cheese I eat to stay in the protein limits of 15%. I have decided to cut the saturated fat down and...

Confused about my doctors/consultants advice, am I type 1.5?

I recently got the results of my cholesterol test back from the GP. My stats: Total cholesterol= 8.3 HDL= 1.4 LDL= 6.0 Triglycerides= 1.4 I am a little concerned that my HDL is not improving relative to my LDL. I have been eating low carb since Jan and ketogenic since march (1 month). My...

Confused about my doctors/consultants advice, am I type 1.5?

I booked in for a retest at my GP surgery. The doctor said my test should have been done fasted so its likely the triglycerides were out of whack. However my LDL does seem very high and that wouldn't have been effected by non fasted conditions. It would be after 1 month on the ketogenic diet so...

Confused about my doctors/consultants advice, am I type 1.5?

I seem to symptom free of diketoacidosis and have been losing very slowly (0.1 kg per month) but that because I have not been overeating to get rid of the fat around my belly. Around 2000 calories per day. I heard dieting can increase your cholesterol.

Confused about my doctors/consultants advice, am I type 1.5?

ok so I went to see the consultant today. Its bad news. My cholesterol has gone to unsafe levels: Cholesterol test total: 8.0 HDL: 1.2 LDL: 4.9 Triglycerides: 4.1 HDL/TC= 0.15 should be >0.24 TG/HDL= 3.6 should be <2 The thing is before I went to the doctors I had only been the ketogenic...

Confused about my doctors/consultants advice, am I type 1.5?

Ok this was the email I sent to the clinic: In terms of my diet. I have not decided to go back onto a standard diet. For a number of reasons really. Putting me back onto carbohydrate (>150 g) a day is dangerous for my health without medicines. My current diet is controlling my blood glucose...

Confused about my doctors/consultants advice, am I type 1.5?

The doc said she might do a c-peptide test, although she did not say whether she would notify me on the results, I'll try ringing up in a couple of weeks. :-) She just said there was two antibodies not available on the NHS that would provide proof that I was not LADA.

Confused about my doctors/consultants advice, am I type 1.5?

I know, it was a surprise to me. The doctor said the only way to tell if I am type1/LADA is by putting me back on carbs and seeing if I produce ketones. The slow burn type 1 is what the doctor said to me. I guess she meant being in the honeymoon phase towards LADA
