Coming off Metformin, to go to diet/exercise control

Hi Bit of an old post! Yep, still off the metformin. Last Hb1Ac was 54 in new money, so 7.1 in old. A little higher than where I want it to be but pretty much static. Unfortunately, as static as my weight which is the same 13 and a half stone as it was when I posted over 3 years ago! However...

Coming off Metformin, to go to diet/exercise control

Quick update from me. Latest HbA1c came back last week - 6.4%, achieved purely on exercise and diet. Seem to have hit a wall with the weight loss (been a static 13 and a half stone for about 2 months now) so time to up the exercise I think. Needless to say though, I'm pretty happy with the HbA1c...

    metformin

While it, touch wood, doesnt seem to have caused any long lasting issues, taking metformin increased my ALT levels hugely. After starting Metformin about 4 years ago, the ALT level went up to 170. It stayed up in the mid 100's until I stopped taking Metformin about 6 months ago... first blood...

    Is this a joke???

Just received their emailed newsletter. Saw this recipe on the front page and decided to look further at it as I love cherries... what I found really surprised me - hardly a diabetic friendly recipe! Cherry compote (generally made with sugar) 2 x muller light yoghurts (how much sugar in these...

Coming off Metformin, to go to diet/exercise control

Hi all Just a quick update from me on this. Saw the GP a couple of weeks ago. He wasn't too pleased about me stopping Metformin but understood my reasonings and congratulated me on the weight loss (just over a stone since I last saw them 6 months ago). Anyways, he sent me for the usual blood...

    Ketones

Yes, sorry, you're absolutely right. It's in the early stages and, if I recall correctly, the 'weight loss' stage where zero carbs are promoted...

    Ketones

Hi Dennis I'm aware of that, and didnt suggest Atkins was the only way to do this! I used Atkins as an example as it was a no carb diet plan...

    Ketones

I'm not suggesting you should follow it, as I dont believe in it, but have a look at the Atkins diet... the presence of ketones in the urine is promoted with this diet and is a sign that you are burning fat...

    Confused - low blood sugar

Thanks to you both. That Dr Eades article is very interesting. Shame it doesnt refer to mmol/l but I get what he's saying

    Confused - low blood sugar

Hi all Bit confused here. T2, not taking any form of oral hypoglycaemics (came off metformin 6 weeks ago) but have just had that familiar old feeling - sweating, shaky, light headed.... tested my BG and was a bit surprised to find it 3.4 mmol/l. What's that all about? Had a decent lunch, low...

    Starting Metformin...

I was diagnosed T2 at 27 and, from what I can gather, diagnosis at this sort of age is becoming more and more common. How long ago were you diagnosed Feebiecat? I was put on Metformin as soon as I was diagnosed, some four years ago. I have no idea if you're overweight, but I've found that...

Coming off Metformin, to go to diet/exercise control

The weight loss thing about metformin really puzzles me. Metformin was giving me low BG levels, so I'd eat more, often 'quick fix' items such as sweets, crisps etc... not sure how that promotes weight loss!

Coming off Metformin, to go to diet/exercise control

Thanks. I've been testing 4 or 5 times a day, every day, since I stopped taking the metformin 6 weeks ago. Managing to keep it between 3.5 and 8 most of the time, had a couple of peaks in double figures but I know why they were and have learnt from that. My fingers are like pin cushions :oops...

    No added sugar products

You may of seen in the press this week, some baby foods has frightening levels of sugars, fat and/or salt added! The ones I've found are mostly organic and clearly state 'no added sugar'. This is also backed up on the ingredients list. In theory, they're perfect for a diabetic...

    No added sugar products

These seem a bit few and far between when I'm looking for stuff. Now though, our baby boy is 5 months old and so we've started weening him... the baby aisle is full of no added sugar products! Biscuits, yoghurts... two of my favourite things! Has anyone tried the baby foods? I'd imagine they're...

Coming off Metformin, to go to diet/exercise control

Cool thanks. I was under the impression that it would take weeks, rather than days.... so I'm even more pleased now that my readings are low, despite having no metformin in my system at all!

    I'm fairly gobsmacked......

Shouldn't laugh but LOL! Mine sent me to the hospital as I had glucose +++ in my urine and a similar Bg reading. The doctor there did another blood test and then sent me home with.... wait for it.... Metformin!
