Cost of insulin and availability of dexcom CGM in UK

The Dexcom G6 is available to us at a subscription cost of £159 per month, or available without signing up for 12 months at slightly more. Some people find they are able to restart sensors and bring the price down that way, it depends on how tolerant your body is to the sensor I think. T1s...

    need a little help

Hi Jenna, welcome to the neighborhood :) Have you seen the Young People/Adults forum? Many of us oldies can remember how it felt at your age though! Most of us have gone through phases where it all seems too much and we let things slide, it's officially called Burnout - try a search of the...

Diagnosed with type 2 yesterday, bf dumped me

well @Adm_Mad that proves that you are better off without him! No decent human would tell someone they truly care about that they are stupid. Leave him in the past and concentrate on yourself and your future, with the help of your doctor (who sounds great!) and all the info & support on...

    Libre GP Prescription Issue

There is new national criteria from the 1st April - if you fit it they have to prescribe it! Partha Kar (Associate National Clinical Director, Diabetes with NHS England leading on digital innovation) has been instrumental in getting the new criteria through and is actively chasing up any...

Is Libre available 'over the counter'?

Hello wonderful people, can anyone tell me if I can just walk into a pharmacy and buy a Freestyle Libre? I use the Dexcom G6 but had a couple of failures last night (I was doing something wrong that I didn't know about!) and cannot get delivery of more sensors until sometime on Monday. I...

Stopping the contraception pill and gaining better controll

If anyone is looking for contraception that doesn't mess with hormone levels there is an alternative coil which doesn't use any. Obviously some women don't get on well with coils but it's a good option for those that can

    Type 1 diabeties DKA

I understand, I suffer with anxiety too and think there's quite a few forum members who do too. It's mostly under control for me now but I have had several 'hermit' episodes. My worst was about 2 years ago and in the end hypnotherapy worked for me - I was SO skeptical but a friend suggested...

    Type 1 diabeties DKA

Hi @Bladezy, I don't think you've mentioned you have anxiety problems before, that no doubt impacts on your diabetes too and makes it harder for you to manage. Have you tried any treatment for that? It may be the first step to getting you well. In the meantime do what @DCUKMod has...

    Type 1 diabeties DKA

Are you just under the care of your GP? Type 1's need to be seen by specialists, ask for a referral to the diabetes team at your nearest large hospital, and you should be able to see a DSN.

    Type 1 diabeties DKA

Tell your GP you want a referral to the diabetes team at the hospital - Type 1 needs specialist care and they will be able to help you avoid DKA etc. "still here" shouldn't be enough - you should be well and not needing admission to hospital too

    Type 1 diabeties DKA

I have found the dexcom extremely helpful but it’s only really as good as the effort you put in to reacting to what it tells you and using it to learn about your diabetes. It may be too much information at once at your stage but it may be the key for making you take more notice of your levels...

    Type 1 diabeties DKA

@porl69 looks like we've done a similar turn around! My HbA1c used to be 13/14% (your 139 is apparently equivalent to 14.3%) and my last one was 7.7% (61 in your terms) so a bit behind yours but getting there. Just goes to show that even the 'worst' diabetics can turn it around - hopefully we...

Fake Florida doctor arrested for telling people he could cure their diabetes

Really??? I guess living with it means we are more aware of these charlatans, plus we get all the adverts on facebook etc as we talk about diabetes!

    Type 1 diabeties DKA

The Dexcom G6 is a CGM - Continuous Glucose Monitor. Basically, it is a device you wear to see your glucose level 24/7 without constant finger pricks. It's not available on the NHS but many people pay privately as it offers such valuable information and the main advantage is that it can alert...

    Type 1 diabeties DKA

You can have high sugars for a long time without going into DKA, I was like that for years. However if you are having no insulin at all for days at a time I'm very surprised you haven't ended up in hospital with it. Whatever the reason(s) for you managing to not be ill you really need to start...

Man with type 1 diabetes blames hypoglycemia for death of his girlfriend

I suffered with 'rage hypos' during puberty, I actually picked up a stool ready to hit my best friend once, and another time physically threw her off a chair that I had decided was 'mine' for some reason. It's very very scary once you feel normal again. Although I think it's possible that...

Haven't had normal blood sugars ever - averaging 300-400 most days - anxious and feel terrible

Hi Sam Well done for reaching out to us - I'm so glad you're looking for help and not giving in. I used to suffer from fear of going low and let my sugars run high on purpose too - please know you are not alone in how you are feeling. I have found using the Dexcom CGM has massively helped...

Has anyone been given 25% extra time for exams (GCSEs or A levels)?

So glad this kind of thing is getting some attention these days. In 1995 I just about passed my maths A-level mock after having a massive hypo in the exam and the teacher not giving a ****! Fortunately I was ok in the real thing and got the B I needed to get into uni.
