Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

First one since LCHF diet started in Jan - 6.1%. Also, LDL cholesterol is down and HDL cholesterol is up [emoji16]

Sorry it's another Freestyle Libre thread

Have to mirror these sentiments. Went from Apple to android just for this but it isn't so discreet using my Samsung Galaxy S7, especially as I seem to put the sensor in a different spot each time on either arm. Plus, as Scott-C says, screen facing out and loud, unadjustable beep (unless in...

    LOW CARB SUCCESS STORIES

So. A comparison of last 90 days (first picture) where 55 days were with insulin and carbs... And then the last 30 days, which has been LCHF, maybe 20g or fewer over 24hrs (mostly from veg)... And now, half a stone lighter (though I was only 1 stone o/w and am T1), I have much more energy and...

Android Phone for Libre Link App

I left apple for Samsung Galaxy S7 and it works a treat though, compared to the small libre reader it is relatively large so not quite as discreet and don't forget, when these large power hungry mobiles run out of power, you are without a monitor!

    Later-in-life diagnosed Type 1s

Thanks @bushbri I have just gone back to LCHF and am confident for the future especially as I have also given up alcohol too [emoji3]

    Later-in-life diagnosed Type 1s

Hi I was diagnosed about 18mths ago at age 41 and am trying to see if there are any common factors between us that might have led to the auto immune disease causing T1DM. Some things from me for a starter for ten: A couple of years earlier I was diagnosed with depression following a series of...

    Diagnosed Type 1 yesterday!

Hi Adam. I was diagnosed T1DM at age 41. Unusual but it happens (think our prime minister was in her 50s when she was diagnosed). All I'd say is don't be too harsh on yourself. Take it a day at a time and do your research. Good luck!

    Psyllium Husk Powder for baking

Just made the diet doctor's recipe with psyllium husk powder from H&B. Not sure of the brand but it was called 'Colon Care Plus'. Almost as attractive as the purple rolls it spawned. Still, taste ok with a wedge of ham in there!

    Type 1 carb intake...

Hi Amy T1 for just 18 months, though only appeared when i was 41. I'm really critical of myself and have never been happy with the spike postcard meal. Whether with or without insulin, there is always a spike. Bread, pasta, rice, potatoes. Now, I used to live on pasta, bread and beer (though...

Why go Low Carb - A great video presentation.

Thanks robert72. What's the provenance of this chart just so I know?

Why go Low Carb - A great video presentation.

Great video. Also T1 but dabbled last year with LCHF until consultant scared me off because of ketones. Also quite hard to sustain while travelling. Going to give it another go as when I did it I sustained BGLs at 5-7 without the need for novorapid. Just took basal at night. Thanks for sharing!

Excited to talk about Type1 Diabetes.. but have things gone too far? [emoji26]

@daisymj14 good choice and all power to you. I have, myself, only been T1 for just over a year, having gone 40 years of enjoying carbs unhindered! How I would have coped in my teens/twenties.. even thirties, I really don't know. Anyway, here I am, one year in and although I embraced it all and...

What do you miss most from being diabetic

Miss the carbs. I lived on bread/pasta/rice dishes and managed to couple that with beer (ale) by exercising plenty. Being diagnosed T1DM at 41, it has been hard to suck up but I cannot imagine how I could have coped in my 20s. I would certainly have had complications by now, given the advances...

    Still undecided on meter

Hmm thanks. I'm a bit of a control freak so you'll understand why I am to-ing and fro-ing. I like the features of the Next as I can plug into my Mac and track progress. As it is I have been inputting results into Diabetes PA app which doesn't really present data that well. Thanks all

    Still undecided on meter

Thanks @andcol. Makes sense but doesn't really give me much confidence as to which one to trust!! Unless I test on 3 different meters and then interpolate taking average. Then again it depends on too many factors, eh. Guess the only true test is hba1c...

    Still undecided on meter

I had, so far, found the Freestyle optium neo the most reliable as it seemed to read under 4 whenever I felt hypo. All others were at least 0.5 higher in the same circumstances. Now I've received a new Contour Next with some test strips and, although the first few tests were about 0.5 in...

    Just a rant

It is a trial, eh? Only had it 7 months (T1) and already considerably bored but recognise acutely the more I make myself interested, the better my control. Still. What a pain in the backside.
