    Type 3 diabetes

While "good" nutrition is desirable for the elderly I am not sure if my definition is the same as the HPs as to what constitutes "good". Just as I know I cannot reverse my T2 I know I cannot reverse my parent's dementias. So at best I hope that I can be a dutiful and caring daughter for them...

    Cows fed candy during drought

My query was over the terminology of what was regarded as a "natural" diet for cattle and not an "accepted" diet for domesticated cattle in times of drought and winter. I certainly understand that without these interventions the farmers would not have a profitable livelyhood and the cattle would...

    Cereals

I don't do grains. Any grains. None of them can keep me under my chosen target top end after one, two or three hours and that is not OK for me. When I wanted to add another option to a breakfast menu I recently played around with a type of almond meal porridge. It varies everytime I make it...

Hey ex country women and men You did us proud. Thought we had it nailed in 2000 but it was great. Was waiting for the Morris Dancers. I had heard a rumour that there were thousands to participate when called upon. Seriously, it was something to be held in my heart. XXXXXXXXX

    Meeting with GP!

Not wanting to hijack your thread Dillinger but I also visited my GP for a Pap smear test and I also had a blood test done about a week ago so results should have been in. She was a young Asian woman as my older, wise GP was on holidays. She aquainted herself with me and I told her that there...

    Sugar alternatives

I was a Splenda and Stevia user until I discovered xylitol. It does not leave an after taste when used in cooking at temperatures of over 170c. Used to think that Splenda was OK before I tried this alternative. Recently ran out of xylitol and used the Stevia to sweeten a batch of stewed rhubarb...

Second part of The Men Who Made Us Fat on tonight

There is no doubt that I eat a larger 'quantity" of food nowadays as opposed to when I was obese. It is 'what' I eat that has made the difference between a 'normal' BMI and obesity (0.4 into the overweight range). I maintain it is what I eat not how much I eat that has made me healthier.

    Why I don't.....

Thinks I am going to have to buy a coffee grinder. Thanks Libby. Somehow can't see my blender doing it. Do have a food processor which should have the capacity to do that as it cost enough! Will read my instructions. The ratios really are adaptable. More linseed makes a firmer biscuit...

    Why I don't.....

Hey there Truffle I have been making batches of Linseed and almond biscuits and spread them liberally with butter!!!!! It is so simple and absolutely scrumptious. Equal parts of ground almonds and ground flaxseed meal (linseed) and enough water to bind. Roll out as thinly as you like between...

Stevia Sweetener - Is it safe?

I have used Stevia and it is acceptable to my BGLs but has an aftertaste and doesn't do well in baking. I now use Xylitol granulated and it also doesn't impact my BGLs and holds it's sweetness when used at over 170C. Agave is horrendous for my Blood so threw out a whole bottle of the stuff. I...
