    BYETTA

Re: Anyone use Byetta? I was told the pen itself could go into the household waste its only the needles that need to go into the sharps bin. I know for myself at least I couldn't fit the pen into my sharps box anyways!

    Getting worried

Before you are dumped onto insulin I think you really need to get a referal to a specialist called a diabetologist or endocrinologist(I'd suggest the same for anybody really). Its possible they may be able to recommend another course of action that doesnt involve you taking insulin. However I...

    Cholesterol and Heart Disease

A guy plugging a book... Did this in any way take into account genetics, average weight or other factors? I mean Australian aborigines are another race compared to European nations. Not convinced here as it sounds like yet another conspiracy theory I mean does he really expect us to believe that...

    protein in urine

I wouldnt worry unduly about the protein whilst its a cause for concern if it was urgent they would have changed your appointment. There are many potential causes for this and until it has been investigated further I wouldn't worry as like I said if it was a cause for concern you would have had...

    Metformin & Beer???

I doubt that a few beers everynow and again will be a huge problem infact I was told that by my diabetic nurse. Just be aware of lactic acidosis which you should be anyways if you are on metformin. I was advised that lager contains a large amount of sugars and that ale, bitter etc would be...

    Prospects for coming off meds

Well ultimately its down to you personally to decide and you are always at liberty to decide to no longer take medication. I think a lot of doctors prefer to keep you on medication however as its down in the guidelines from the specialists. Don't forget that metformin also protects various...

    T2... and ashamed

TBH sad and pathetic individuals like your work collegue are the worst some of people. Its none of his buisness quite frankly and unhelpful and hurtful comments like this can really knock some people back. Being overweight can be a cycle thats also mental and emotional and spiteful comments like...

recently diagnosed, still a bit confused

Can only agree with frenchkittie here I used to have a real thing about needles but I now inject myself with byetta twice daily, its the same needles as used for insulin and you can barely feel them, tbh finger pricking is more painful and that is nothing either.

    T2... and ashamed

All I can say is ignore the gutter press. Look around you how many people are overweight/obese and how many of them are type 2 diabetic? Its only a fraction. You are unfortunate to have a disease you should feel no shame in that. Granted being overweight might make it worse and might have been a...

can't cope with metformin, so worried

Even if you cant get your diet under control there are a number of other drugs they can try you apart from just sticking you on insulin. If this is what they try and do then I suggest that you demand to see a diabetic specialist called a diabetologist or endocrinologist. The names mean the same...

    pain relief ideas

Diabetic nerve pain/neuropathy is a very particular type of pain and none of the over the counter stuff like asprin or paracetamol should or could touch it according to the neurologist I saw. There are mulitple options for treatment normally starting with a trycyclic anti depressant such as...

    pain relief ideas

I know the feeling just recently on max dose of pregabalin and I was awake for hours last night with pain in my legs and arms. Even having sugar levels that are pretty good most of the time seems neuropathy is getting worse atm. Didnt help that when I could finally get to the sleep I was awoken...

    new member seeks advice

26.1 is really very high. The guidelines are no more than 7 or 8.4 2 hours after a meal. A non diabetic is prolly running somewhere around 4 to 5. I know the diabetic nurse at my doctors told me to go back in as an emergency if I did 3 readings which were 15 or over. As for drinking that would...

    meal readings

Dont forget that your body has become acustomed to running higher blood sugar levels until it gets used to your new levels this is bound to have some impact including making you feel hungry.

    Sooooo Confused.

Also the other thing is if your levels dont come down with the next few months then its probably time to speak to your doc and try and get a refferal to an endocrinologist who hopefully will be able to help you get your sugars lower. If I was you if you dont start seeing an improvement soon its...

    Interesting info

Interesting indeed would be nice to know if this is some or all type 2s. From the information I have gathered in the UK at least they dont really bother checking for stuff like MODY, LADA etc they just say if you need insulin right away then you are type 1 if you dont you are type 2. Maybe its...

Has anyone had a problem with oats

I think the problem is the one size fits all approach of the NHS and many diets. Ulltimately its your life I'd advise you to test a couple of times and see how it works or doesnt as the case maybe. Just watch out for manufactured cerials as they often contain extra sugar.
