    Statins in the news again

I must be one of the lucky ones. I've been taking Simvastatin (20mg) for 4 years now and have never suffered from any side effects.

The Big Fat Lies about Britain's obesity epidemic

Perhaps we should return to rationing, 'cause in the 12 years (1940-52) the country was on food rationing the whole nation was a lot fitter & slimmer. Just a thought.

He should buy it on the open market, like the rest of us.

    diabetes low libido

I asked my DN this question and she said it could. "Right" says I, "I'll bring the wife for in a blood test, 'cause I think she's must have had diabetes fer 30 years".  Seriously though, aren't loss of libido and erectile dysfunction two separate problems ?

To Test or not to Test - that is the question.

Next question, now that I've got the gear, am I following a good testing regime ? At the mo I'm testing first thing in the morning (before eating or drinking anything); then before our main meal (usually 1830hrs-ish) and 2+ hours after it. Also should I record what I've eaten ? So far I've done...

A good diebetic diet doesn't half cost a lot, doesn't it?

That's what we do and cut it into portions (legs, wings & breast). If we roast one whole, the carcass goes into a pot with a few veg (or veg trimmings), to make stock or soup. Buying a whole chicken is much cheaper than buying pre-prepared stuff.

To Test or not to Test - that is the question.

Again, thanks for the advice folks. It's much appreciated. The question now is, which device do I opt for ? I've had a butchers at a couple of the relevant threads in the "Product Review" forum and have looked around the web and I'm leaning towards an Accu-chek aviva Compact. Though, at the...

    bread flour

We haven't bought any bread for at least 2 years, we make our own. I was only diagnosed T2 in Feb, and I immediately stopped putting sugar and salt (1teaspoon salt, one & a half teaspoons of sugar, for a 2lb loaf), in the mix). Result seemed to be that my bread wasn't rising as it used to. So...

To Test or not to Test - that is the question.

I was diagnosed T2 back in February. All the advice was that I had no need to test myself (1st HbA1c was 7.7, next one was 6.7). Despite attending 2 Desmond sessions, which were very good I thought, I'm still a bit concerned as to whether I should test myself. To draw an analogy, I feel it's a...

    Hi

Hi everyone, I'm a newly diagnosed (4 months) T2 diabetic. I was coasting along in life, quite happy with my lot, until I reached 60 and my GP did a few tests and then it was "me"!! "diabebtic"!!. After the initial shock and going to a DESMOND workshop (which was brilliant and really put...
