    Diet Dilemmas.

I'm also T2DM. Below T2 HbA1c for eight years now. Diet controlled. Firstly, don't worry about cholesterol. It protects you rather than harms you. Your body produces cholesterol but it can't be transferred from food. And I will never take statins but that's just my opinion. Porridge is very...

Cant find a cereal that doesn't shoot my blood sugar right up!

Don't eat the carbs would be my advice. You don't need them. The energy they provide doesn't last. And it's because of the carbs that you need the insulin. Add to which, carbs don't do your weight any favours. Get up 30 minutes earlier...for your own health. Scrambled eggs or eggs and bacon...

    after remission question.

I've been in remission for about 4 years. My surgery now just call me in once a year for HbA1c, foot check etc. Having said that, they will help if I need them.

    Putting Remission Mathematically

I like the idea of leaving carbs til last. I can see that helping people not yet strong enough to quit carbs and not yet bold enough to cook alternative recipes....the "I can't give up bread/chips/dessert etc" brigade. Obviously better to eat a LCHF diet but some need leading there slowly.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.2 at 7.43am. That's not bad....I often have dawn phenomenon so quite happy.

UPDATE TO NICE RECOMMENDATION FOR T2D

Full, nuclear powered Mayo is far lower in carbs than the "healthy" low fat option. Wholegrain bread isn't good, neither are pasta or rice. In fact, most of the "healthy" diet advocated by NICE and NHS is the cause of obesity, not the solution.

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Hi berylc. I sometimes get calf cramp too. It's usually during the early hours, so put it down to dawn phenomenon. Don't think it's unusual...just painful.[emoji52]

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

T2 Contolled by diet only. No drugs. 7.0 before breakfast. Not bad. It'll go down as the day progresses. Average of all readings for 3mths is 6.6.

    Newly diagnosed- confused

AM1874 has given you good advice. I do the same...LCHF diet & testing. I also get the mood swings....brief, irrational feelings of anger. Haven't found an answer other than self control and will power.....both of which you'll develop dealing with diabetes. If anyone has better answers, I'll be...

Do any of you wear diabetic ID tags/bracelets?

I'm T2, controlled with strict diet. I have a nice steel, expanding men's bracelet saying "Type 2 diabetes". I also have dog tags with ICE and T2 etc. I wear whichever seems most appropriate, especially when on holidays abroad. Last thing you need is for someone to give you something, quite...

    Bit high tonight.

I'd suggest that after the Prof Tim Noakes case the LCHF diet is pretty well proven to be the way to go. That's supported by member experiences here. The more conventional low fat, high carb diet has been totally discredited and there's no evidence to support it...other than widespread obesity...

    The NHS T2 Treatment Regime

Moving away from Mosley's ideas, try this for size (sorry for pun!). Just suppose that the pancreas is producing less than ideal insulin. It does not react properly with all of the glucose generated by carbs. Some is taken into muscle cells as energy fuel. The rest stays in the blood stream...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Hi, you're in the right place. 9.4 seems quite high. Most folk seem to aim for around 6 but fasting readings can be quite high due to Dawn Phenomenon (dp). It's when your liver produces glucose to compensate for the early morning drop in energy. It isn't unusual. Hopefully your readings will be...

    Question about Metformin

It sounds like you are not testing your blood sugar levels yourself(?). Well worth doing, albeit an additional cost. It will help you decide which aspects of a low carb, high fat diet, exercise regime etc are working for you. We're all different. You'll realise I'm sure, you are among friends...

    Worrying Facebook Post

Of course, value of meters is in trying to identify what caused the hypo rather than how low you went. Whilst I try (like everyone here) to maintain mid-range b/g levels, I also try to identify which foods (and activities) cause biggest variations between before & after readings. If the...

    Worrying Facebook Post

Agree on both points. My SD Codefree reads higher than my Contour Next. Odd thing is, when I convert my last HbA1c and compare with previous month's average mmol/l it seems the SD readings tally more. I know such conversions aren't great and Contour readings reflect my feelings better but odd...

The meters could well be free on the back of on-going test strip sales...not an unusual marketing move.

Understood DP occurs about 4 to 5 a.m. Also thought it best to wash hands before tests. While I'm washing my hands might as well carry on with the rest..... Readings tend to return to mid to upper 6s, sometimes low 7s, later in day. Thanks for input. Always interesting to hear how (& why)...
