    Job discrimination because of diabetes

Good luck to you DJS! I hope that I'm like you after nearly 18 years experience of T1 diabetes - in good health, positive and proactive. All the best.

    Individual assessment for diabetic drivers

I can be discreet if that helps? Or we could throw caution to the wind and risk everything. I'll await your decision. Hope an age gap doesn't concern you? Whatever you decide, I'm sure we'll meet again over some issue! I'll stop deviating from this thread now......I've said my piece - about...

    Individual assessment for diabetic drivers

Hey, hey - careful with the assumptions! Don't judge me over my views! We could be a match made in heaven! Opposites attract, supposedly. Worth a try.

    Individual assessment for diabetic drivers

Excellent post, Margomatt! Cugila - lets stop all this and get married/have an affair. It would be such fun...... think about it. xx

    Individual assessment for diabetic drivers

Fuji - I quite agree that there should be a time lapse between diabetes diagnosis and decisions regarding licences. I don't know what kind of time lapse - maybe a year (given the six month honeymoon period), I don't know. Obviously if you were going blind or had other serious complications...

    Individual assessment for diabetic drivers

All those who agree with individual assessment and holding a group 2 licence are wasting your time posting in here. Sadly, you will get limited support from this forum. Most people appear to believe that anybody with diabetes should keep a wide birth between themselves and the road. Many...

    Job discrimination because of diabetes

Then hear this, Cugila - not everybody on insulin is a danger on the road. Read the statistics. Gather ALL evidence, hear ALL sides. Look at it from ALL points of view. Leave my current role out of it. You know nothing about me on a personal level and you know nothing about my job...

    Job discrimination because of diabetes

True.....but with the greatest respect, you personally don't fight with a needle five times a day. That's hard enough without certain people telling you in so many words that it was a good job you lost your job -the roads are now a safer place. Thank god for private messaging. Thank you to...

    Job discrimination because of diabetes

All those commenting on driving and insulin and who are not insulin users themselves, can only be (for the most part) ASSUMING those on insulin are a danger.
  10. S

    Job discrimination because of diabetes

What is worse, half the people commenting on this thread in relation to insulin dependency and certain driving roles have no personal experience whatsoever regarding insulin and driving. I can only assume assumptions are being made....

    Job discrimination because of diabetes

I totally agree. And at this point any sensible person would hold their hands up and step away from what it is they do, if necessary. I've said that in my previous posts. However, until that time, why can't those that are doing well with the condition be allowed to work in certain jobs...

    Job discrimination because of diabetes

Sue, I enjoyed bus driving so much that I'd go back to it tomorrow if they changed the law and I was in good health. But yes, I'm here because of my loss and its not a bad place to be. Your comment re. response is precisely the point I'm trying to convey. So long as we are deemed fit and...

    Job discrimination because of diabetes

Dipsticky, You say that "nobody is suggesting all insulin users be banned", then you say that insulin users should NOT be driving hgv, flying planes, etc. So you are proposing that we should all be banned? Your contradictions are confusing. Jst say you dialled 999 and were given the choice...

    Job discrimination because of diabetes

Now who is taking a swipe? I know the world is not perfect, I never ascertained that it was. I merely said that insulin users should not be automatically barred from such professions. Neither did I say that they should be allowed to retain their licences. I merely said that people should be...

    Job discrimination because of diabetes

Two of my ex-bus colleagues were diagnosed with Parkinson's. One retired, but after a year, the other had their PCV licence reinstated and was allowed to continue driving buses. Presumably doctors had assessed him and concluded him fit to return to work. I think the point I'm trying to make...

Dipsticky, Explain your post....its a bit confusing.

    Here, here! Well said....

    Job discrimination because of diabetes

You've worked in a sphere where the most important thing is to treat people as individuals. Enough said.

    Job discrimination because of diabetes

Your 'history' is irrelevant. And yes, your comments are highly 'irritating'. You're missing the point. You ARE making a sweeping generalisation, can you not appreciate that?? Your opinion is suggesting that ALL people on insulin are a danger and therefore should not be allowed behind the...
