How often do you change your needles/lancets?

I change my lancets and my needles every single time I use them. It's what I was told to do when I was first diagnosed so thats what I do. I have a friend who is also diabetic and he changes his insulin needle at every cartridge change (about once a week roughly) and I think he changes his...

Any Advice To Help Mum Get Blood For Test Meter?

Has she tried squeezing the tip of her finger (that she wants to prick to test) so its really red before she pricks it?? As that is what I do sometimes and helps with getting a decent blood spot. Also are her hands warm? as cold hands have reduced blood flow in them anyway

    What are you reading?

I've just finished reading Lee Child's '61 hours' excellent book, as are all of his (or so I find anyway). Just started a book by Sophie Hannah called 'a room swept white' which is billed as a psychological crime novel. I have enjoyed the other books of hers that I have read which are of the...

    general anesthetic and type 1

I had a general anasthetic and was under for about an hour having my operation and then woke up in recovery another hour and a half after that. I was starved from midnight the night before and went down for my operation 2pm in the afternoon. My blood sugars were ok during this time but they were...

    changing lancets......

I change my lancet after every use. The only time a lancet gets used more than once is if I am out and have run out of lancets and need to test because of a hypo. I normally remove the lancet straight after testing but if out will leave it in the device until I am home.

    Medical Alert Jewellery

I was allowed to wear my medicalert bracelet in school and they had a ban on bracelets/necklaces and rings (stud earrings were accepted though!). I had two bracelets- a normal one with a silver chain and one with a sports type band that I wore for pe (and still use now when I go to the gym) so...

    4 mil

joelcam- the pip code for these needles is: 351 2878 Take that info into your GP and you might be more successful and not have to wait another month! I have heard quite a few people say that they're GP can't find it yet on the system, but if they have the pip code they find them straight away!

    4 mil

They have 4mm needles in England. Well they do where I live anyway! As I have recently trialled them and now moved onto them permanently. My hospital who suggested I try them is in Nottinghamshire but the practice who has prescribed them for me are in Lincolnshire. The company who do the 4mm...

    Wanted to share my news

The EDWARD course is specific to the hospital I attend, as one of the other posters has already said which is in Nottingham. It is designed primarily for type 1 diabetics and you have to be following a certain insulin regime to be on it (Injecting fast-acting insulin at meal times with...

    Wanted to share my news

It was one my hospital runs called EDWARD (Eating in Diabetes Without A Restricted Diet). I believe it operates in much the same way that the DAFNE courses run. It teaches you how to carb count, your insulin ratio to carbs and also lots of other things about diabetes so you have alot more...

    Wanted to share my news

I just wanted to share my news with some people who will understand! I have been diagnosed as diabetic for 6yrs I think it is now, and my control hasn't necessarily been all that great in that time. However at the end of last year I went on a carb counting course, which was the best thing I...

My first HbA1c result and new meter

I hesitated! I've actually been testing my sugars for about 5years now and even now, I will have times where it can take me a few minutes to click the button. sometimes it hurts but usually it doesnt. What you need to do is make sure you have the "depth" setting on the lowest one you possibly...

    Eating rules for diabetics.

Yes that also got me as well! If I wasn't allowed to be in any of the states of feeling before eating, I dont think I would get to eat half the time!! And talking during eating makes it more sociable, plus I just dont think I could keep quiet for that long

    Eating rules for diabetics.

I don't understand, why as a diabetic can I not have a drink with my meal (of any kind!)?? Also how am I meant to eat at regular normal times, but then have 6small meals a day instead of 3normal ones?? I find those rules very confusing :?

    accu-chek "mobile"

I was just looking at these and you can buy a new cassette of 50test strips for £50 from boots.com which is the same price as the meter would cost you in the first place (unless you use the special discount code offer they currently have which will give you £10 off). I think I will be waiting...

The lowest I've recorded is 2.7 and the highest I have recorded is "HI" on my meter (I have no idea how HI that actually is because I dont know what that particular meter measures too before saying HI).

Pre and post meal blood glucose testing

I test before every meal and before going to bed. I find this useful as I am a carb counter and knowing what my blood glucose level is before eating tells me a number of things: 1- whether I need to include a "correction" dose of insulin with the meal I am about to eat to bring my level back...

What blood glucose monitor do you use?

Hi, I have done some measuring of the meter and cover! The meter by its self is approx 10cm tall and 5cm wide, in the penguin cover it stands at about 11cm tall and 7.5cm wide. So the cover is slightly bigger but not all that much. Hope you get some stickers for your meter soon :)
