BUT WE'VE GONE TO THE MOON!?

I was thinking the same. Any ideas how/from where to start? :)

    Parents: Oh wow

Hi, from my experience testing capillary blood on fingers is absolutely unnecessary. I always test on feet and the results are the same. Best!

Toxicity of insulin due to phenol and metacresol

You do not work for one of those pharmaceutical companies, do you?

Toxicity of insulin due to phenol and metacresol

Hi, thank you for your reply. According to: Setter SM, et al. Ann Pharmacother. 2000. Insulin aspart: a new rapid-acting insulin analog "Insulin aspart exists as hexamers that rapidly dissociate into monomers and dimers on subcutaneous injection." The above mentioned, NovoRapid and other are...

Toxicity of insulin due to phenol and metacresol

Hi, after some time I'm back on the same topic. Why? Because one more issue with the commercially available insulins: their onset and duration of action. In the healthy islets, with presence of Zn atoms, insulin takes hexameric (inactive) form which is also more appropriate because allows more...

    Adhesive remover products

Try medical (purified) benzine, it should perfectly dissolve the organic adhesive. I can get it here in the pharmacy, and it is cheap. I'm sure it's the main or even the only ingredient of commercial products, sold at 20 times higher price. Best!

    Hi From İstanbul

Hi, I'm sure you were not able to open the link outside UK. The price of a sensor is 60 euro in EU, the same applies to the reader. If the product is not registered in your country it could mean that the only possibility to get it is to ask someone to bring it to you or that you travel. Good luck!

    Injections. Or pump?

From a perspective of an engineer and Medtronic pump user, I would prefer injections. Why? Because the insulin called 'rapid' is really slow comparing to physiological, reaches the maximum concentration in blood after 40-60 minutes and remains active for 3-5 hours. All these characteristics are...

Any parents with kids using freestyle libre?

We are using Libre since March - quite good experience. Readings on some sensors are perfectly matched with the capillary levels. Maybe it helps to check the glucose using the reader (some sort of calibration), but this is my speculation. The glue is pretty hard and is designed to stay intact...

Toxicity of insulin due to phenol and metacresol

Depends on how much bacteria 'flow' in the air. Besides, we can think about 'ready for use sterile reservoairs' already filled with insulin.

Toxicity of insulin due to phenol and metacresol

Guys, never had an intention to upset anyone. The benefit of insulin is unquestionable comparing to the risks of toxins. However, after spending some time in search for better preservatives, I came back with one simple question: Why is there a preservative anyway? The use of phenol and m-cresol...

Toxicity of insulin due to phenol and metacresol

That is a good question, I would just add one important detail- the costs. From experience in a process industry, engineers are always pushed to lower the operative costs and increase the yields. Different separation resins are probably more expensive. May I ask what would you choose? It is so...

Toxicity of insulin due to phenol and metacresol

I was searching for an insulin that has less phenol and/or m-cresol and I found none, regardles of application method (injection, CSII, IV). No wonder why ghe risk of cancer in diabetic patients is incerased.

Toxicity of insulin due to phenol and metacresol

I am sure that phenol m-cresol are not the only preservatives available and they are probably used for cheap separation od protein from the DNA of the species used to make it (bacteria). For the rest, I can do some research. Some other resin is a possibility, like this one used in lab...

Toxicity of insulin due to phenol and metacresol

Calculation: concentration of phenol in Novorapid is 1,5 mg/ml so in 1 ml (100 units) you have 1,5 mg of phenol or 1500 mg/l which is 1500 ppm, so in 100 units (1ml) there is 1500 ppm of phenol. Seems a lot.

Toxicity of insulin due to phenol and metacresol

I agree with you, for a consumer there is not much of a choice offered on the shell. But the market pull can do miracles and drive technology changes. Why not demand safer products? From a process technologist point of view, I would consider different production methods, and as a formulation...

Type 1 - Strange turn in insulin sensitivity

I think you are right, we had a similar situation. Think about lowering your basal and also do a BG trend analysis. Find the periods of the day where you had most hypo's. Those should be corrected with lower insulin doses. Not only sensitivity, but the insulin/carbohydrate ratio changes.

Toxicity of insulin due to phenol and metacresol

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone here was thinking about toxic substances present in insulin formulations. For example, Novorapid contains 1.5 mg/ml of phenol and 1.72 mg/ml of metacresol. Both of these substances are very toxic, and for someone who is injecting 20 units of insulin per...

    Prednisolone

Just one small remark, Metformin might not work well for you, as your condition is steroid-induced, and not "regular T2D". Please read the article published on: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4112077/#R1. My advice is to test frequently your BG, and focus on physical activity and...
