What are people thinking about a second lockdown?

Research is showing that mask wearing, while not able to entirely block CV, reduces viral load to the point where you may be asymptomatic and your immune system develops antibodies to further infection. So wear your mask and if you see buses with a preponderance big passengers not wearing masks...

And so it begins: Eat less meat or we’ll make you.

Methane has twenty times the greenhouse effect of CO2. If we all turn Vegan, will will fart 60% more methane than "normal" omnivores. So either cows (vegan) or humans (vegan) will add to the greenhouse gases. Anyone care to calculate which is the greater risk? Cow production of methane is also...

Freestyle Libre sensor Serious inaccuracies- Help us improve this!

For what it's worth, even the pinprick machines are quite inaccurate - I tried 4 different models and on the same puncture (pinprick), obtained a 25% variation in readings. So I agree that these machines are only really useful for trends and not for accurate measurements.

    Bad leg cramsps at night

My mother (a nurse during WW2) always told me that leg cramps at night could be helped by increasing salt intake in your diet. I know that too much salt is a no-no but as with all things, if you have cut out salt entirely, this may be a causative factor. Also, as it can be quite hot at night at...

    Refused blood testing equipment

I have blood test meters coming out of my ears. My recent visit for a regular checkup at my GP yielded yet another Glucomen device, this one having much cheaper test strips than the LX I have been using. Needless to say, comparing the same puncture's blood on both meters gave a substantially...

How accurate are home testing kits?

I normally test with a Glucomen Visio, but have compared readings from the same finger punture on a Glucomen GM today to see what reading it gave. The Visio showed 6.5 and the GM showed 7.4 That is rather a large spread of readings from a single puncture! Both meters kept at room temperature. I...

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn At the age of 58, I've been Type 2 for a few years and my morning B/G had crept up to a figure over 10, despite 3 x 500mg Metformin and 80mg glyclazide. I was also on hypertension meds and just about keeping Bp to 140/90 with 20mg...

    How accurate are test meters?

I have a Glucomen LX as my primary test machine, and recently received a Glucomen GM as an "upgrade" from Menarini. I also have a Bayer Breeze II. When the GM first arrived, I was curious to compare the results on the same "puncture" so tried them one immediately after the other. The LX...
