    BURNS NIGHT

Hi, I'm not Scottish, Asda had no haggis, I'm off the tatties and neeps because of the carbs, but I'm enjoying a 15 year old Springbank Whisky so it's not all bad. Happy Burns night ! Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Protein in urine. Again!!

I had the same, after my heart bypass, I was called in to the gp's surgery who explained that they had found protein in my urine, I'm now on 1.25 mg of Ramipril, and no further problems. I'm due for a review soon so maybe the doctor will take me off it (I hope!) Good luck. Chris. Sent from the...

    Heat problems

I'm finding the heat difficult too, but then again since my heart bypass I find the cold to be debilitating as well! Before my CABG I was never cold, I suppose I had blood the consistency of pâté which kept me warm. I take so many pills now and my bloods like water (I don't have to squeeze...

    heart attack at 43

Hi, sorry to hear of your problems, I managed to avoid the heart attack, by walking in to A+E with severe chest pains. I had ECGs and drugs and was kept in overnight. In the morning during yet another ECG was feeling unwell, I got sent for an immediate Angiogram during which I died. Luckily I...

    Favourite Author

I really enjoy Bernard Cornwell, his historical novels are excellent. I've also just finished the latest Dan Brown, but I'm finding him a bit formulaic now. Iain Banks is also a favourite, but I've not read any of his sci-fi novels, and Ian Ranking is really good too. I would rather read a good...

    Diabetes related.

In my case being consumed by diabetes and putting all my ills down to that meant that I went without a diagnosis for my heart trouble which nearly killed me. So now rather than be obsessed by diabetes I see my doctor when I have a worry! I also read this forum a lot, it's really useful! Sent...

Anyone doing anything "unusual" to combat diabetes?

Re: Anyone doing anything "unusual" to combat diabetes? When I eat something I shouldn't I have a small Whisky, usually followed by another! Never too much, but then again never too little either! My morning levels never go higher than 8, usually about 6.2 if I've had a Whisky or 2 then they...

    Diabetes related.

I attributed my chest pain to my type 2 db, it got so bad that on 25th sept last year I went into my local a&e. I thought they were going to tell me that I was fat and diabetic so go home, take some pills, lose weight etc. What they actually did was keep me in, did an Angiogram during which I...

    Managing blood sugar with alcohol

I'm a big fan of peaty Whiskies, however, I love Highland and Speyside Whiskies as well. I also find that a small Whisky or two after dinner has a beneficial affect on my blood sugars, I never have too much, certainly well within the government guidelines, and only a couple of times a week, but...

    Managing blood sugar with alcohol

This is a great topic! I'm doing my research properly sitting here enjoying my 18 year old Laphroaig! I also take on board the carbs advice and may have to have a dinner kebab later (purely medicinal of course!) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Metformin & Alcohol

Re: Metformin & Alcohol I too take Metformin and have the occasional Whisky, Vodka or Gin, and I've noticed no effect other than low blood sugars! I would be interested to know what the side effects were though. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    It's tough

I couldn't recommend this as a sensible diet choice but I had a large Doner Kebab (with garlic mayo and lashings of chilli sauce) for dinner last night, I left the bread (I was stuffed!) and after 2 hours my bg was 6.6 and I was a happy bunny! So you don't have to give up everything you like...

Exercises -which are the most fun and easy?

Hi Susanmanley, Geocaching is great fun it is a global past time too, there are caches in every country. This year I will be taking the family away 'cacheing whenever I can, I've been told by my HCP's to slow down the amount of work I do, so we'll be all over the country instead! Lots of lovely...

    feeling a little down

Hi there I was diagnosed three years ago, it was difficult to come to terms with and depression is a symptom of diabetes, but please don't give up! It will get better if you work at it. I've just joined this forum and found it a mine of useful information. I've just read the thread about...

    Magnetic jewelley

I found it refreshing to come to this forum for reasoned debate and good advice, my post diagnosis medical care was very regimented, you will take these drugs, etc. the approach that I've found here is reasoned and practical and not judgemental. I wear a magnetic bracelet, my joints feel better...
