Should I be worried - just done a home blood test.....

Sounds normal to me. If you're really worried, see your doc. But 5.6 seems good.

    Rice replacement

Quinoa is excellent. Never pushes my sugars up.

    Rice replacement

Quinoa is very different to white rice though, and is unlikely to push your sugars up in the same way. It's also full of protein and amino acids.

    Rice replacement

It's worth remembering that not all carbs are the same. If I eat white bread, white rice etc my sugars rocket. If I eat chick peas, beans, nuts etc I get little or no increase. I exercise a lot and I need some carbs - I am losing weight at a steady rate but while I am happy to lose fat, I resent...

What was your Hba1c when you were put on metformin?

Should say - I've lost a stone and a half since changing how I eat. And in fat rather than muscle thank goodness. Too easy to lose muscle as well as fat.

What was your Hba1c when you were put on metformin?

I got put on metformin at around 7.0 I think. Now on Lyxumia too, and well controlled. I tried very low carb but my sugars rise dramatically if I go too low. Gluconeogenesis, I guess. I also find that exercise (running, weights, swimming etc) can up my sugars - liver pumps out glucose to feed...

My 6 wk LCHF results are in. Good, nearly good and not so good!

My latest cholesterol came back at 2.9, down from 6.4 on the lowest dose of atorvastatin. I rang two close friends, one a medic and one a physiologist, and both said stay on the statin. Apparently there is growing evidence that there are lots of positive things they do apart from lower...

Strong genetic disposition to type 2: diabetes inevitable?

I was adopted as a baby. None of my adoptive family have diabetes or any sign of it. Clearly I was brought up exactly the same as my siblings - same diet, same levels of exercise. I'm the only diabetic. When I found my birth family, I also found out that every woman in my family, in every...

Diabetic mom or dad = diabetic baby?

My ex husband was type1 and my younger son has also developed it. He's very like his father in many ways, and particularly in body type. We always watched him carefully. My elder son is physically nothing like either of us, he takes after grandparents I think, and he has no hint of it, nor of...
