Type 1 Crossing timezones east to west +7 hours. pretty urgent.

I travel a lot generally when going backwards in timezone I will inject at my normal time in the new timezone. Keep in mind you will therefore inject around 6 hour late and I would therefore be testing more just to keep an eye on BGs and inject a correction dose if they rose to high during the 6...

Why do I never see people testing their blood or injecting?

When I was first diagnosed I would not test or inject in public.. 15 odd years on and I do it when and where needed.. in all that time however I have only ever seen one other person inject in public..

    Type 1 and metformin?

I have taken metformin for the last two years... with no adverse side effects.. It does improve insulin absorption some what and decreased my basal requirement by around 30%.. bolus has remained pretty constant over that time period... however a far better way of achieving a much better result...

    Pain in my entire body

Some people can have poor reactions to certain insulins.. when I used to take Lantus I would get terrible joint pains and headaches.. I would suggest looking at changing your insulin and seeing if that helps..

    Insulin for protein

If you are low-carbing as a type 1 then its best to ensure that you are either in or out of ketosis as a "moderate" low carb approach may see you fluctuate in and out and that can cause control issues.. i.e. you may or may not covert protein to glucose at fluctuating rates.. Generally once you...

Over testing - is there such a thing?

Testing is each to their own.. as long as your happy with the results and you understand the risks of the condition then people can test as much and run whatever blood glucose numbers that they like. If you want stable blood glucose then eat less carbohydrate.. less carbohydrate = less insulin...

Over testing - is there such a thing?

I don't think you can over test.. the more readings you have the better you can understand and control your diabetes.

    huge conflict with dietician

Dave not sure if you got a response to this one.. but a good place to go reference low carb is an American Doctor called Peter Attia.. one of his main areas of interest is endurance athletes and nutritional ketosis.. he is himself a marathon swimmer.. Here is a lecture / presentation he made at...

    Are pumps benifical?

To be honest I posted on here earlier today to support the GP that was getting some stick for having an entirely sensible view (having seen this highlighted elsewhere); you would think that the forum admin would want to help and support HCP that are giving up their time to come here and help out...

    Are pumps benifical?

It's a misnomer that you can't get a pump with good blood glucose control. I got a pump with an HbA1c in the high 4's / low 5's as long as you can show significant impact to your daily life then you can get a pump on lifestyle criteria. Mine was based on the 10+ injections I was doing a day to...

GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

There is plenty of evidence to show that elevated insulin production causes hypertension; I have seen a couple of papers that estimate that 85% of hypertension cases are caused by elevated insulin production due to an increase in insulin resistance in the patient.. many of these patients do not...

GP uses low carb diet with 13 patients -amazed!

I think we all need to accept that there are multiple ways to control diabetes.. we also all need to accept that no two diabetics are the same.. However what you can not dispute is the human bodies metabolic process and the role that insulin resistance plays in metabolic syndrome and then...

    Is it true?

The problem here is that Admin compared to the rest of us spend very little time reading all the forum posts.. Ben himself would be the first to admit that he hasn't been around much lately... thus how he can make a decision about someone else's opinions and beliefs is beyond me.. Further when...

    Frank discussions Poll

The unfortunate point is that frank discussion and a forum where problem members were removed is counter productive to the business that owns this forum... It is in their interest to generate traffic and get people to this site... it's in their interest to try and stop eat to your meter becoming...

    Frank discussions Poll

So answer me this question then Anna.. When individuals such as these are targeted by other members including a moderator.. used and manipulated and this is reported to the forum admin was no action taken? Yet the fact that these vulnerable people are here is used as a defense for protecting...

    Dietary Advice Poll

I am sorry I disagree.. as a member of this community I feel a responsibility to support others and provide them with the information that they need to support themselves and their diabetes. The first thing any HCP worth they salt will tell you is that you listen to the patient; they know their...

It's a real shame when expression of fact is considered to be scare-tactics.. why only just now I got an e-mail from DCUK about how my feet were going to fall off...
