Stem cell cure for type 1

https://www.newscientist.com/article/2142976-first-implants-derived-from-stem-cells-to-cure-type-1-diabetes/ I just read this and wondered if there were any developments...

    Emotional Impact of T1

She's not acting badly, that's the thing... she just gets way too upset for a relatively minor thing!

    Type 1: Headaches from hypers

Has he had a growth spurt? Could be why his levels are now high, although as others have said, carb counting should help. Good luck!

    Emotional Impact of T1

Thanks for sharing your feelings. We're quite lucky that she goes to a fairly small school and has lots of friends. She's been very open about her diabetes since diagnosis and has taken books in and answered questions. Her friends even know to keep an eye on her at play times! That said...

    Emotional Impact of T1

Thank you. We had a bit of a chat with her this morning and I think she is actually fine. She said the injections are a bit annoying, but didn't seem to fussed otherwise - haha!! As I mentioned before, perhaps we read too much in to her behaviour. Her over reactions are usually when she's...

Thanks for sharing and I'm glad you and her are dealing with these feelings now. We too are at East Surrey Hospital!

    Emotional Impact of T1

Thanks everyone - I will ask her if she would like to get in touch with other kids with diabetes. So far, we've treated her as normal and it hasn't stopped her doing anything, even if we have to nip in to parties or play dates to do her jabs! Meeting other kids with diabetes may be a good...

    Emotional Impact of T1

You've hit the nail on the head there - you really don't know what they are going through in their little heads! Maybe it is just her age and I'm over thinking this!

    Emotional Impact of T1

My wife was/is very upset, but she doesn't show this to our daughter (or tries not to). I've been more 'it is what it is'. It's no good moping about it, we're lucky it's not something worse, so we just get on with it. As I've said, my daughter isn't showing me any real reason to be...

    Emotional Impact of T1

We haven't no, it's only something we've thought of recently with her getting (over) upset about minor things. As I said, she has been amazing since diagnosis... I just want to do the best for her.

    Emotional Impact of T1

Hi all, My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with T1 around Easter time and she has been an absolute superstar in dealing with it, and even injects herself occasionally. She's up to 6 injections a day now, recently having to add an injection with her afternoon snack. The one thing we've...

    Is there any hope?

Thanks for your replies everyone... although it was a shock to discover, we have got our heads around it and are managing well. Dillinger - Being a positive person, I am hoping for a cure... but in no way pinning my (or my daughter's) hopes in it! It is what it is - we'll manage her cure until...

Newly Diagnosed type 1 Feeling down.

Good luck mate and try to stay positive! My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed a few months back and I'm working hard to let her know she can do whatever she wants in life! Smash that medical form and crack on as normal! My daughter is a rockstar and doing her own leg injections!

    Is there any hope?

Evening all, My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with T1 about 4 months ago and has been an absolute star - she even injects her own insulin in her legs! Obviously, we are all holding out for a cure! Is there any hope out there currently? What have you heard? What can we look forward to?

    Need help!

I'm no expert but my 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with T1 about 4 months ago. Surely carb counting is pretty important and you should have been spoken to about this already? The point of carb counting is that you give yourself insulin to combat what you are eating. Good luck

    New here.. Problem teacher.

Hi @W00sterz00ey - Great isn't it... just as you get to grips with diabetes, coeliacs rears it's head! Our appointment is on the 20th at St Georges.

    Reading Recommendations?

Thanks @himtoo - we got the KIDSAC at the hospital when she was diagnosed and the 'children's' book was very useful for me! I just saw 'think like a pancreas' recommended on another thread, so will order it!

    Reading Recommendations?

Hi all, My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed about 6 weeks ago with T1. We've got to grips with managing her diabetes so far, but as someone that knew absolutely nothing about diabetes 6 weeks ago, I'm fully aware that I pretty much still know next to nothing. Please could you recommend any...

    Honeymoon period

My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with T1 around 6 weeks ago and hasn't entered the honeymoon period yet - but our Dr has told us it will be a severe drop in levels once she enters it, so I guess hypos will be the tell tale signs. As for high numbers... they drive me crazy. We are still...
