I went through a phase about a year and a half ago where I would regularly have 1.8's and once it was too low for my monitor to read (under 1.1). Even with sugars that low I have never lost conciousness during the day The only times that has happened is when I have been low during the night...
Well my book finally arrived on Friday and It has seems pretty good.
I discovered a few things that I didnt know such as the fatty deposits on my eyelids are actually caused by my diabetes and may disappear as I get my sugars under control.
I havent read much of it yet but feel that there is a...
OK!
I began by feeling a little more tired than normal but this began as a very gradual thing, probably every 3 or 4 days feeling just that little bit worse.
After a couple of weeks of this I started getting up in the night for the loo - not totally unsual for me but more than normal...
Thanks Fergus.
I have ordered the book from Amazon and should get it this week.
I have started to count the carbs and add 3 units per meal and my sugars over the last 2 days have been consistantly between 7 and 9 thanks to your advice
Hopefully the book will give me the knowledge to...
So if fat slows down the release of sugar, how do you reflect that with insulin?
I always inject before I eat, so if I am having a fatty meal, ie cheese, meat etc should I inject later or get a slower acting insulin such as Actrapid? And roughly how much longer will it take to release...
Thanks fergus, I had no idea about the protein.
As we appear to need roughly the same amout for breakfast could you tell me what your ratio/correcting doses are. I obviously need to do some experimenting with my insulin and it would be good to have some sort of guideline to follow.
Just a little extra
It appears that I need my normal ratio 1.5 units per 10g carbs + 3 or 4 extra per meal. as I am having to correct with that amount each time!
I am reasonably hypo sensitive and generally feel it if I go below 3.6, I am not aware of any hypos in the last week and I havnt had a single reading below 14. I religiously check 4 times a day.
I started lowering my carb intake a few weeks ago and my BS reading improved immediately and so i thought that I had got a good handle on controlling my sugars.
At the weekend I decided to be stricter with the carbs and have been following a high protien/low carb diet (I must admit that the...
Square one
It would be helpful if you gave nutritional information on your products then carb counters would be able to make an informed decision as to whether these products are as good as they look especially as you state that they are suitable for diabetics and those following the atkins diet.
I am sat in my office at work, (East Hampshire) we have just had wind, rain, thunder and lightening and hail stones but the sun has just come out briefly.
Its stopped raining at the moment but there are more dark clouds on the horizon.
I would like to say that as a reasonably new member I have read some tripe but have also managed - like Saffy - to lower my BS levels by following the low carb threads.
Until I came across this site I was following the advice of my "specialists" with very poor BS control ie readings between...
Picked up my new pen this morning.
Was 4.6 before lunch, had 30g carbs, 4.5 units novorapid (1.5 units per 10g). Sugar is now 4.7.
How cool is that!! :D
I have just spoken to my nurse about the novo pen demi who didnt know it existed but has just changed my prescription and I should be able to pick one up on saturday.
Hopefully it will help to make my control a little better.
Just wanted to say thanks to sofaraway for the link.
