Are any members part of the Artifical Pancreas Trial?

    78 to 42 is incredible!

    Anti-spike strategy

Fair question. I'd say that 'shallow' and 'quickly' are subjective terms and a diabetics decision regarding what to act upon is to a large degree personal. I initially intended for this to be a more general question to maybe avoid a discussion of whether, say, an hour and a half at 9.3 or...

    Anti-spike strategy

I intended this as a more general question regarding a strategy of this nature, but I can certainly go into a bit more personal detail to explain why I came to it. I'm aware of different foods needing different techniques. A lot of what I eat is very high fat (nuts, avocados, the classics!) and...

    Shower setting of libre alarms

My libre almost always thinks I am high after a shower. It changes its mind after about 15 minutes so I ignore it. It's never thought I was low so that's interesting. Do you always shower at around the same time?

    Anti-spike strategy

But yes, when I said 'complicated' I meant the timing. If you added those extra carbs too late, you would be in danger of crashing. That's why I wondered if any had tried anything similar and succeeded (or failed!)?

    Anti-spike strategy

Thanks for the responses. I should probably explain that I do use the other strategies primarily and have pretty good control on the whole. Most of my diet is low carb and I avoid high GI foods where possible. I also take my insulin in advance of my meal. These certainly help, but I'm trying to...

    Anti-spike strategy

Hey all, Haven't posted here for ages, but when I have in the past people have been very informative. I had half an idea and figured others must have tried it before so I thought I'd ask. I know the best way to avoid BG spikes is probably to avoid significant carbs, but I wondered to what...

    Low carb and high calorie

What upsets me is when medical professionals refuse to accept that this happens. I have been told that it is not possible for eggs to have a notable effect on my blood sugars. I have also been told that it is possible. Of course this means that I have received no guidance as to how to factor in...

    Low carb and high calorie

I cannot be sure that it was the Libre that was over-emphasising. However, for a period I started taking insulin in a response to the Libre's readings and this caused some sudden lows so I am inclined to believe that the Libre was giving higher readings. I am aware that the the Libre is...

    Low carb and high calorie

Sounds like you eat some similar things to me. It does seem as though fat itself is not the problem. Still not sure there's a consensus on saturated fat though.

    Low carb and high calorie

Thanks for this feedback. Low carbing has been helpful but I still don't fully understand how people get their HBA1C below 6 though. Even with low carb my sugars just do their own thing at times. Recently they've started rocketing up late evening. Except that some evenings they simply don't...

I agree. Nut butters are pretty great!

Can't keep track on what they think about red meat. My partner certainly doesn't stop me eating meat! It's just nice to eat together but we struggle to find meals. It's very often salad.

    Low carb and high calorie

Thinking about it I suppose that what is 'healthy' is somewhat dependant on the person. Although cheese and red meat are not recommended for the general population they are probably considered les of an issue for diabetics if they help with blood sugars. Is this how most people see it?

    Insulin and exercise

Although the issue actually came up with my doctor regarding football. I believe I would have to disconnect a pump for this so I guess that brings its own issues.

    Insulin and exercise

Thanks! They keep talking about the pump and then not actually putting me on the waiting list.

    Insulin and exercise

That makes sense. I think I need a pump. My diabetes team suggested moving to a twice a day basal system but I struggle to find the space on my legs as it is. Hopefully they'll put me in for one soon.

Thanks for that. Very nice to hear some of the science behind what is happening to me. I appreciate the response.

    Insulin and exercise

How does reducing the basal work for you the next day? I understand the benefit/necessity of doing it overnight but do you then have issues because you have less basal during the following day?

    Insulin and exercise

Trial and error and lots of testing is often the answer! Thanks for sharing this experience. What you say makes sense. It is interesting to know what works for different people.
