Is there a link between T1D and digestion problems?

Hi @azure, thanks for replying. Not had another test recently. I've kept a diary of what I eat for info and there doesn't seem to be any pattern, I seem to have the diarrhoea with pretty much everything I eat! I've been told not to cut gluten out of my diet until I've been tested and have it...

Is there a link between T1D and digestion problems?

Hi Katrina I am sorry to hear you also suffer like me. I've been referred to the Gastroenterologist for further investigation so I hope I get answers as to what's causing it. I haven't been T1D for very long so nurse seems to think it couldn't be complications of diabetes as its too early for...

Is there a link between T1D and digestion problems?

Hi @Tony337, thanks for all the information. I have been to see my diabetic nurse today and they think I should be tested for coeliacs. Better to know one way or the other I suppose. Beth

Is there a link between T1D and digestion problems?

Yes, my GP said that IBS tends to happen in episodes or flare ups but like I mentioned previously the symptoms have continued since last year without much relief at all. It could well be IBS, I just thought that before this started happening, I'd never had any problems whatsoever with my health...

Is there a link between T1D and digestion problems?

Thanks @DiabeticDadUK for your reply. Had my first hba1c result last week since diagnosis last October and it was 52 so I think my control is OKish at the moment. I have tried to work out any relationship between sugar levels and diarrhoea but there doesn't seem to be a pattern or any rhyme or...

Type 1 So much conflicting information!

I could have written this myself, I know exactly what you mean! I have recently started using a Freestyle Libre and whilst I was just logging finger pricking results before meals, bed etc my readings looked fine! Now when I read the Libre my levels are all over the place in between meals!! I...

Is there a link between T1D and digestion problems?

Hello all, Wondering if any other T1D's out there that have experienced this.. If I start at the beginning... Out of the blue in January 2016 I started experiencing frequent diarrhoea which lead to a visit to my GP and a prescription of antidepressants in case it was caused by anxiety which...

    Feeling unable to cope

You're all so very kind. Due to the fact I'm best guessing my carbs at the moment, I've been experiencing loads of hypos - over compensating in case I go too high only to hypo a few hours later. I know the dangers of this now after an appointment with my GP last week. I didn't realise until then...

    Feeling unable to cope

It seems I have hit a wall. At diagnosis I felt apprehensive but was prepared to deal and manage this condition to the best of my ability.. Fast forward a few months and now I'm finding it really difficult. I have a full time, quite demanding job, two (amazing) kids aged 5 and 3 and at the...

Hi @Kirstyo1, I am also a recently diagnosed Type 1, I completely understand how you feel because I also have days like that. Type 1 Diet

I have always eaten a fairly healthy diet .. freshly prepared meals with veg, moderate to high carb, not a lot of processed foods. Since my diagnosis, I have found that I’m eating more or less the same as before but the only difference is I’m now working out the carb content (as best as I can)...
