    Rollercoasters!

Hi, we went on every rollercoaster at Thorpe Park last Friday. My son disconnected for each one as advised by our DSN and the attendant looked after it. We did a temp basal of -20% and he stayed in single figures all day. Have fun! We love Universal Studios too.

    Overnight use of pump

Okay thanks. I went away for the weekend and my son forgot to reconnect his pump after putting his PJs on and woke my husband at 4am with BG of 30. Luckily no ketones and a bolus brought him back down. Just made me wonder how dangerous it was.

How dangerous is it if you forget to connect pump and go to sleep?

    Difficulty getting a pump

I had to move to a different hospital to get my son pumping. The difference in care has been eye opening. We went for our first consultation at the end of November and he was on the pump with fantastic education and support by the end of January. It's been life changing for him and I just wish...

If you disconnect, can you use a hot tub?!

Thanks everyone and for the link. My son has used hot tubs for over 2 years while on MDI and it did reduce his BG so he always had a snack before and we only let him in for max 5-10 mins. But never had a problem. I just wondered if the cannula would be okay now he's on the pump. x

Since 9 Feb when I posted this, I have started using skin tac wipes from animas on my son and never had a problem since. So thanks for the advice, much appreciated :)

    Will I ever cope?

Over 2 years ago, we had to make a decision on how we would face our sons newly diagnosed type 1 and how we would educate him and help him to not only live with diabetes, but to accept it as part of him. To not let it become all of him or overwhelming, but to take it seriously and for him to be...

How long before my 13 month old becomes more stable?

The early days are so hard. My son was diagnosed in Oct 2010 and I felt devastated. It was such a hard time. BUT life does get back to normal, just a different type of 'normal'. It took a few months of adjustment and then there was no stopping us as we were determined not to let type 1 spoil our...

Cannula coming off too easily - any advice?

Thank you both. I've been advised to call Animas and ask for some skin tac wipes. Apparently that can help.

Cannula coming off too easily - any advice?

Hi everyone, the past 2 nights my 11 year olds son had a cannula change both nights due to them coming off. He's had clean dry skin on insertion and we tap the cannula, and firm down the sides of the plaster as shown at hospital but they've come off twice?! Once on the top of his hip, and once...

9 yr old moving onto QDS insulin.

My 9 year old son was diagnosed on Oct 4 last year (wow, nearly a year - that's gone fast!) We moved from twice daily to MDI in June and have never looked back. He feels like he has got his life back :) and gets on really well with the new regime. We also have much better control of his BS. He...

No child should die because of lack of insulin

I hope it is okay to post this but as a Mum to a Type 1 10 year old boy, I feel this is a good place to raise awareness. And this is so close to all our hearts. No child should die because of lack of insulin. Please take time to listen to this. The majority of us are blissfully unaware of many...

    Twice daily vs MDI

Just wanted to update this post as we have been on MDI (levemir and nova rapid) and carb counting for nearly 2 weeks now and .... wow! It's literally life changing! We have much tighter control and less swings. My son is loving the extra food choices and also not being stuck to the strict...

    Twice daily vs MDI

Hi, my son was diagnosed Type 1 last October and was put on Humalog twice daily shots with a strict diet plan. We are used to this now and have no real problems. He is a very organised little boy and copes with it all tremendously. Not once heard a complaint from him. His blood sugars fluctuate...
