I dont know what to do...help me please

Hi, sorry to hear that your son is poorly. When my daughter is ill then i tend to test and correct every 2 hours, day and night!! Depending on her levels and how she responds to the corrections i do sometimes have to give up to 50% more to bring levels down and if she is very high then i cut...

    Cinema trip for daughter.

This is exactly what i do, we go to the cinema a lot over the winter and never have popcorn or sweets etc, depending on the time of day my daughter might take a cheesestrintg to eat. Neither my daughter or other children have ever been bothered by not eating when we go to the cinema! Also, if...

Have been given green light for pump!

They all have their own pros and cons, you have to decide which of the cons are more liveable with! For my daughter the Medtronic was a no straight away as she'd have to get the pump out every time she ate or needed a correction and she was fed up of flashing her tummy in public to inject...

    Worried mummy!

You did exactly the right thing reducing his doses :) It is very daunting when you are left to adjust insulin doses by yourself but in time you will become more confident

Have been given green light for pump!

That's brilliant news :) My daughter has had her pump for 3 months now. My advice is to read as much as you can and learn as much as you can. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask

    pump insurance?

I added the pump to my house insurance which works out about £40 for a full year. I was told to insure for £3,500. We were actually given a back up pump from the pump company incase of failure. I am happy to insure it against accidental damage as it can be so easily dropped!

    is pump best?

Hi, my daughter (just turned 13) has been on a pump for 3 months now. Her/mine/our overall control is better i would say, her Hba1c has never been so low! During the day she is generally quite stable but unfortunately overnight is not always so. She does still suffer night hypos but nowhere...

    Cgm vs blood reads...

That doesn't surprise me! I found them very unhelpful when i rang to complain about 2 sensors failing, 1 failed after just 6 hours but they just blamed my daughter on moving around too much and being too rough??? I found the arrows fairly reliable and the overall pattern and trend was useful...

    At my wits end

Maz, how are things now? My hospital won't run any sort of course for children or their parents/carers. I found out from this forum that there is an online carb counting and dose adjustment course devised by Bournemouth Hospital which i registered for and completed, i found it a brilliant help...

    Holidays

I actually find the opposite, my daughters levels are much better and more stable when she is with me for weekends and holidays! I don't know if that is because i can keep her activity levels more consistent or because i know what she's doing so can make small changes to adjust. I do know that...

my 3 year old just been diagnosed

The hunger will eventually go as his body settles down, my daughter was the same when 1st diagnosed! Yes we use carb free snacks, ham, cheese, chicken, hard boiled egg, cucumber, cherry tomatoes. She has been on Levemir and Novorapid and i found it easier to keep her on carb free foods...

    LATEST HBA1C

Well done Yvonne and James :) My daughter has clinic again this week and i am dreading it because she had her 1st bad cold last week and it took me a few days to get it under control, as usual the worst days where i could have done with advice were a weekend!

    Cgm vs blood reads...

Hi DD We've used a Navigator before with varying results! I borrowed one from the hospital for my daughter because i was struggling with lack of sleep trying to catch night hypos, i had to buy a pack of 6 sensors though myself! We used it on and off from April to July this year. I had to...

my 3 year old just been diagnosed

Hi Again Tracy What insulin is your daughter on? That could make a difference as to the best snack ideas! My daughter has had carb free snacks for over a year as that fits best with her current treatment. Previous to that she did used to have snacks of about 10-15g carbs but like you are...

    At my wits end

Good to see her levels coming down, how are her ketones now? What county do you live in? It is hard to give every child the time they want when you are on your own and must be harder for you with their wide range of needs. Poor Hannah, it is tough having to drag other children to hospitals. I...
