I'm a parent who's 2 year old son just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes

Levemir is his long acting one. I know all these words and phrases that you never dreamed about having to know before! There will be no patterns to start with as his body will be getting used to the fact it's having insulin injected and his pancreas is still making some too. Keeping same portion...

I'm a parent who's 2 year old son just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes

Hi, my dd is 2 1/2. Diagnosed just before she turned 2. You sound like you're getting your head around a lot. Please please please be VERY cautious about pre bolusing for food at this early stage. You would not believe how little insulin or time it takes to make a little one very poorly. Every...

    Son is T1

Hi lovely, sorry I'm just replying we're currently moving house [emoji51]. Where do you live? If it's local to Derby, I would be happy to meet up, so you're son can see that type 1 is normal. Is there something in particular you're looking for advice with? [emoji3]

    Pump start day advice

Personally I would go for the 26-40 inch. 26 is the smallest size you can adjust the pump belt to. [emoji846]

    Pump start day advice

She's really not bothered about having it on, she doesn't tell me it hurts and I've tried a few cannulas too which really didn't hurt at all. We've had 2 cannula failures so far, she's never ended up in DKA. It works for us because of the small increments you can change in doses. Overall we...

    Pump start day advice

Hi, Is there anything specifically that's worrying you? Otherwise I could write a book about the pros and cons lol!! We get our pump belts from funky pumpers, we always order one that started at the size we need as they expand so will hopefully last a bit longer. Please feel free to drop me a...

Guardian Connect Vs. Dexcom G5 (No Pump)

Hi, I have a 2 year old type 1 dd too. We have decided to go for the Medtronic connect because of the size and insertion. It's super easy to do on a small child, comes with it's own inserter like you would use for a canular on a pump. Also the transmitter is almost flat and has curved edges and...

    Sensitive skin

That's great thanks I'll ask them. I buy one to remove her cannula/CGM but we need one for before for her CGM I think. I'm at hospital with her tomorrow so I'll ask then. [emoji16]

    Sensitive skin

Hi you lovely lot, I'm just wondering what people use on their skin before putting on a CGM? My lo has really sensitive skin and came out in a bit of a rash? TIA [emoji16]

    Pump belt advice.....

Hi again! Hope things have settled down a little for you all. We get our pump belts/bands for funky pumpers or pimp my pump. I would suggest starting with a lycra one first because of her age. My lo has 4 bags/belts. She gets to pick which one in the morning she wants to wear, it adds a bit of...

14mth old daughter diagnosed a week ago. Help....

Small steps are all you need to take for now, don't overload yourselves with too much otherwise you will get burnt out. The first meal out is a huge step, I can remember thinking everyone was looking at us (they weren't) now it's a 'normal ' thing we do. I used to sit Skye on my lap and sing to...

14mth old daughter diagnosed a week ago. Help....

Unfortunately the stress and fear will always be there because you're her dad. Naturally you will always be worried. You sound very strong willed and minded which is fantastic, hopefully it won't be long before you find what works for YOUR daughter. It's great that the funding is available for a...

14mth old daughter diagnosed a week ago. Help....

Firstly you're feelings are normal, I can remember breaking down in hospital when she got diagnosed. She was struggling to breathe also and slipping in and out of consciousness but we kept getting told it was a viral infection. It is stressful, it's hard work it makes you question yourself and...

    Pumps and paddling pools?!

Hi guys, This is our first summer pumping and I was wondering what you lot do when it's time to get the paddling pool out? My LO is 2 1/2 so will be in and out most of the day. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks x

    Confused mum of young child

Hi, Going to sound a little patronising but was the bottle washed out properly? All the symptoms are there, i can understand your confusion. I don't have any experience with urine samples as my daughter was only given blood tests. Like mentioned above any concerns then straight back to doctors...

Any recommendations Libre vs Dexcom G5?

Hey, is the guardian connect a Medtronic CGM?! We're having a trial with a dexcom g4 at the minute but I'm not really sold on it so far. X

    That sticky stuff!

We use 'peel easy' spray from the pharmacy. It's really good but VERY expensive so it's a good job you don't have to use too much!

    Tomorrow's the day!!!

Thanks we're already using good scales for carb counting. She's a tough cookie and wasn't bothered by it at all! I have got some just in case but I can see us not needing it! Yeah sleeps massively overrated anyway, 2 hour testing for a few weeks probably.

    Tomorrow's the day!!!

We didn't get a choice but it's probably what I would have chosen anyway!! Medtronic 640. Just seen your post about saline train, hope it goes well for you both. As far as pump belts we order of funky pumpers, she's in the middle category of sizes and she's only two!! But mind you she's a giant...
