    Newly Diagnosed

It is as mentioned here before important to know if you are type 1 or 2. In my opinion, speaking as a type one for a very long time, if it is type 2 you are lucky to be I a position where changes in diet and lifestyle can get you off insulin and that way take away the risks involved with hypos...

    Grandchildren and Type 1

Agree with all of this- and now I think there is more interest in the trigger stress, or like you mention allergic reaction triggering immune system, can have. To prevent my daughter to develop type1, I have had this in mind ,it’s not possible to stop stress some times, like when stung by bees -...

    Grandchildren and Type 1

I remember being told genetically it often skips a generation, which is meaning grandkids are more likely to inherit it. When I read the latest magazine in the waiting room at the clinic this year - there was an article I found very interesting. It said if the mother ( which is me in my case)...

month on from diagnosis type1 - needle phobia

I find it very confusing that they say to do it flat- and that you have not been given alternate sites . When I was diagnosed in 1990, underweight after being very very ill with undiagnosed type 1, I was given sheets with drawings of areas to use, and that was to help me vary. my arms were to...

    Changing from Levemir to ?

It’s definitely very stable, I have a lot less hypos at night now

    Changing from Levemir to ?

That is interesting , because there was a lot of confusion getting it from the chemist. They said it was the pre filled that had been prescribed ( Tresiba) however this was not possible to get , so I am using the reusable. Made sure they were different colours, and with one injection per day the...

    Changing from Levemir to ?

I can say Tresiba is definitely better for me, so it’s funny how angry I was that I had to find an alternative and it is actually improving my blood sugar and need to be injected only once- which is excellent!;)

    Newly diagnosed and totally overwhelmed

Hello:) All over 40 usually - diabetic or not, end up with presbyopia which means reading glasses are needed. So although it’s true what your nurse said - expect to need reading glasses, but not because of your diabetes . Xx

How being a diabetic changes: 62 years with type 1.

Thankyou for sharing this! I was diagnosed age 9 in 1990. So not as long as everyone here but feels like a very long time. Now at the point where I am explaining to my daughter who is 12 about how it was for my mum to have a daughter with this, it was not easy, I am very grateful for all my...

    Changing from Levemir to ?

I read about Tresiba, and it sounded good- so have decided with my Doctor at Diabetes Centre to go for it. Will start next week, I look forward to only using long acting once a day, hope it turns out good.

    Type 1 Changing diabetic clinic

If you are not linked to anyone at all by either doing hbac1 there or electronicly ( the libre that shares via a hospital code to the clinic ) this is so so disappointing. How can we feel safe in a system like that? It’s when you are not ok you need that routine appointment so it can be picked...

    Changing from Levemir to ?

I think it’s still another 2 years, so not very very urgent

    Changing from Levemir to ?

That sounds good with one dose. I am aiming to feel as “free from” the practical sides as possible ( with that I mean the things you physically have to do) and balance the carbs and excersize ( really just walking but a lot in a normal day as my job is not sitting much) to make it work . I have...

Should I be worried and how can I help.

I have to say it’s amazing, a total game changer . People diagnosed today don’t know how lucky they are having this available . Best of luck!

    Changing from Levemir to ?

    Changing from Levemir to ?

Novo Nordisc are going to stop making this insulin. Any recommendations to replace? I have realised after 30 years - that with the help of the continual glucose readings from libre sensor - I prefer- if I can make it work- to use long acting insulin in combination with low carb food ( not keto...

Should I be worried and how can I help.

Would recommend him to get the libre sensor even if it’s just once, you would get lots more ( readings 24 h) to work from. Remember it’s your life too - if he doesn’t focus on this it is a burden on you.

Type 1 eye screening - now only every 2 years?

Yes you can, you will have to pay for the oct but any tests that are done in between the due annual tests, if there are “problems “ suspected it is booked as a supplementary test, they can refer you if they see anything. The weird thing is I also had issues after I improved my readings during...

Type 1 eye screening - now only every 2 years?

You can now get the OCT scan that is very good at looking for diabetic changes at the optician. Maybe that is why it’s less frequent at the hospital too, this technology was not available until recent years. If you have a good optician make sure you get your check with them every year.

Living with diabetes for 30 years in Tokyo

Hi! Interested in what you say about your journey- I also find walking is a must for me to stay healthy and happy. It is so frustrating there is not more emphasis on different food/ stress/ lifestyle in diabetes care, and the way resources are allocated not always making sense. I wish all had...
