    Morphine and low blood sugar?

Been thinking about this. Pain is known to cause your blood sugar levels to rise. If the morphine was effective in reducing your pain, levels, perhaps your blood sugar levels were dropping in response to that ? Just a possibility but might be worth consideration. Best wishes.

Do you remember what triggered your t1?

I had forgotten about at least three serious episodes of tonsilitis in the year befiore I was diagnosed until I read this thread. It kept coming back ! They were planning to remove my tonsils ,but the problem disappeared after I became a type 1 aged just 10.My mother's family had several members...

    Hemochromatosis

Some knowledge rather than personal experience,. My cousin was diagnosed with this about 20 years ago. She is treated by having blood withdrawn from her body at regular intervals. This is because the extra iron damages other organs, like the liver, not just the pancreas. The iron level is...

Advice on how to deal with an abusive paediatric diabetic nurse

I assume this nurse is part of a hospital team. I suggest contacting the hospital PALs service. You should be able to find contact details for them on the hospital's website. Make some notes about exactly what was said while this is all still fresh in your mind. You can ask to have no further...

Newly diagnosed T1 vegetarian daughter - meals

I would recommend that you have some fast-acting carbs in the house as well. A sugary drink is a fast-acting fix for sugat levels that have dropped too low. Everyone in the house should be made aware of where the stuff is so they can grab it quickly in an emergency.

    Driving license and hypoglycaemia

This is likely to be down to whatever was in the medical report that was sent to the DVLA. You will need to make an appointment to whoever supplied the information, to discuss it. You have to include their contact details in the information you provide.

It's my 7th year of being diabetic

Just remember we are not all identical in any way. What works for some won't work for everybody. It's helpful to read about other people's experiences and we all pick up new ideas on occasion, so it's worth the time to just browse sometimes. There is usually someone around to make helpful...

It's my 7th year of being diabetic

Well, I don't think anybody likes it at all ! Welcome to the forums. My experience has been that when things are good testing and injecting are just routine. It's when you develop an infection, or something else throws things out of whack that things are much more of a problem. What's your...

    Hypos during the night

Repeated hypos during the night are exhausting and demoralizing. I speak from experience. How much time is there usually between her fast-acting with her evening meal and the basal taken, I assume, last thing at night ? What time do the hypos start ? My problem was partly caused by my evening...

    Exercise & Drugs

I have to agree with what cantinahat has said. You cannot just assume your blood sugar levels will remain normal. Any changes need to be made in consultation with those who are treating you. You need to talk to them.

    Diabetic bladder dysfunction

My husband , 68, also has the benign prostrate enlargement problem. It's very common and nothing to do with diabetes. Can you see / discuss this with a different doctor ? Remember any person with diabetes can develop any other condition known to medical science.

    Venting: diabetes education session

Have you tried complaining to the practice manager ? One of the staff must have signed you up for this unwanted course without your agreement, so you need these people to be informed that they're wasting their time. Tell the practice manager that it is your choice, not that of any doctor or...

    Statins?

Once I stopped the statins, it was about a fortnight before the aches and pains gradually started to clear up. My memory took about 2 and half years to recover, which was about the same amount of time I had been taking statins. It was a very gradual process. I was aware of an improvement after a...

    Statins?

We are not all the same. Your doctor will know that, but they always say statins are well-tolerated by most people. What they carefully don't say, is that statins can have serious side-effects, aside from the usual muscular and pains. These are not acknowledged by most HCPs. Statins certainly...

    My Story

It's certainly worth trying a pen device that measures half-units. I definitely couldn't manage without being able to do it. It's so depressing that medical professionals don't realise such things are available, which means they don't suggest we use them when they would be useful to us, so the...

    Going low at work

You always need to carry fast-acting carb for an emergency no matter what your blood tests show. I once ended up having to ask a complete stranger to go into a chemist's across the road to get glucose for me, because my legs suddenly gave way at a bus stop. Was waiting before you ate...

    Travelling with insulin

I've always had a doctor's letter with me, but have never been asked to show it. Do you have a copy of your repeatable items from your doctor's, with the surgery name and address on the top ? I have seen posts from people on this forum who have just taken this on holiday, together with their...

    Pregnancy and pump failure

Before my son was born 31 years ago, before Libre and before CGMs etc, I had an endless series of massive hypos. On about five occasions I was carted off to A&E in an ambulance. The snag was that they would put me on a glucose drip, but then insisted I ate brown toast befors I was discharged...
