Arghhh no - Lidl stopped selling High Protein rolls

Just signed the petition and spoke with customer services. I tried to sound really weak and anaemic, as if they truly were the one thing keeping me alive.

    Isn't low carb extremely difficult?

Just occurred to me there's booze in everything I've mentioned. Hmmmm.

    Isn't low carb extremely difficult?

I've been going a bit nose-to-tail lately, which seems to alienate a lot of people. These aren't stews exactly, but oven-slow-cooked 2.5hr dishes. Lamb Neck with Sherry Morrisons do crazy cheap cuts of meat if you go for the things nobody else does - lamb neck rings are a case in point. For...

    Aldi Low Carb Bread

Wow, how did I miss that? You might have just changed my life a little bit. Depends on your tolerance I guess, but most people seem to eat half a roll at a time. The pro move is to bulk buy the rolls, cut them in half and then freeze them.

    Isn't low carb extremely difficult?

Cooking would really liberate you from the relative scarcity of choice in the UK - I eat incredibly well throughout the week, lots of stews, eggs, salads and mung bean pasta bought from Holland & Barrett. Mix it with a low carb pesto (Sainsbury's own brand or ASDA Extra Special are good go-to...

    Aldi Low Carb Bread

Lidl's High Protein rolls are still the best in terms of price and availability, as far as I can tell. There is a link in there for a 'keto roll' that seems less carby pound for pound, but at £3.50 it seems a bit rich for my blood, pun intended. I'll get round to making my own one day, but I...

    I think I’m out too. ...

I always miss the dramas, but suffice to say I am sad to see you go, Kristin. You helped me out a lot, but I secretly still suspect you were a shill for Big Avocado.

    Wine and ketosis

After extensive experimentation, (double-blind, drunk) I've found that 12% is the threshold for me. Prosecco, beer and cider are out, but everything else will only serve to reduce BG. I hope this is still the case when my honeymoon period ends, cos it makes everything a lot more bearable.

    Aldi Low Carb Bread

I'm in Budapest at the moment, so not sure if this is just a local thing, but I've found the most delicious low carb bread in Aldi and thought I should spread the word. It's lower in carbs than Lidl's high protein rolls, and tastes quite a bit better imo. I took a picture of the label so you...

    Atkins low carb bars

I did try those when I first got diagnosed, and for some reason my BG went wildly off the boil with them, (disproportionately to the stated carb content). Far better were the Atkins Peanut Butter Cups - which I swear were just like the real thing, but somehow under 3g carbs per cup, if memory...

    Avocado everyday?

Is avocado supposed to taste of something? Maybe it's like a Magic Eye thing and it'll come to me eventually. I never used to eat them, but saw Kristin eulogising about them someplace and now I plough through several a week, usually smashed onto half a high protein roll with salt and lemon. I...

    Sitagliptin and LADA. Anyone else?

My numbers are fine really, wake up with 5mmol/L and average 6.8 overall each day, it's just most of the time after my evening meal I'm hovering at around 8 a little longer than I'd like - I either go for a walk at times like that, or have a drink, both of which have the desired BG-lowering...

    Sitagliptin and LADA. Anyone else?

My consultant (who's quite a well-known LADA specialist) said that he'd found that it was gliclazide that burned out beta cell function in his patients, and that sitagliptin wouldn't affect them - are you speaking from your own experience? I don't want to roll the dice on all the other myriad...

    Sitagliptin and LADA. Anyone else?

Just started on sitagliptin today (Januvia), and I have seen a massive effect on my BG. My control had been pretty good, but I'd been keen to reduce spikes at dinner time (which would rise to 8-ish, but for all other meals I will peak at 7) - my consultant was loathe to prescribe me fast-acting...

    What meters does everyone use

My GP wouldn't give me strips until I told him I'd had hypos, and for all intents and purposes I'm a Type 1. That shocked me.

What are your "go to" meals when eating out?

I haven't done it as a diabetic yet, but tapas seems like a fairly good idea, given that you can easily negotiate the odd patatas bravas to get to the chorizo, boquerones, padron peppers, manchego, serrano ham etc etc. And it's a sharing thing, so there's no spotlight on you and how much you're...

What are your "go to" meals when eating out?

I second Nando's, although I was never a fan beforehand. I had the Mediterranean salad with chicken, which came with a carb-negligible dressing and all the right ingredients, including olives. Not to gross anyone out, but they also do delicious pan-fried chicken livers, (which comes with a roll...

    Post-Prandial/Drinking Nonsense

Thanks so much everyone, the more you know and all that. I'm very grateful to all of you and for the existence of this fantastic forum. Without it I would have been completely lost at sea, whereas now I'm still at sea but I have paddles and a compass and maybe some low carb ships' biscuits.

    Beer

Just picking up on this old thread - if you're looking for a smooth lager, Modelo Especial is just 4g carbs per bottle and they just started selling them in Tescos. I'd feel a bit wretched taking a Bud or Coors Lite to the cashier to be honest. For all the abject shame it causes, you might as...

    Diabetes, despair and depression

I've only been recently diagnosed, but don't let Brian Blessed and the donkey fool you, I feel pretty bleak about it all. I'm hoping it's just the same (temporary?) process of adjustment that has numbed my hands and robbed me of 20-20 vision. My blood sugar is as stable as it's going to get...
