@DavidGrahamJones I'm tempted to ask the question "what separates potatoes from other vegetables?" :) and by answering that question, we'll know why my body likes them and not others.... I have never had any difficulty understanding why some people dislike things I like but others always...

It's very difficult to understand when you like something that others find quite revolting but I can assure everyone I have tried every vegetable ever put on my plate AND in different ways, from boiled, roasted, barbecued and fried... but they are the most vile things on earth... I have reduced...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

@cusally quite a good idea... a conference call would be a great way to connect people with transport and other issues that made it difficult too attend.

    Thank you Elvis Costello

@Resurgam When I say I haven't eaten anything sweet... The day I was diagnosed (in the evening 6.20 by phone) during the day I ate a whole lemon meringue with half a pint of double cream, 34 licorice strips, 1 packet of digestive biscuits and 5 small individual apple pies, 3 Viennese whirls...

    Thank you Elvis Costello

For reasons that are not important, I suffered depression, most days I didn't get out of bed let alone the house. now 10 months later, I'm diabetic, obese, lethargic and although my depression is improving, it is far too easy for me to just give up. I have been very good with my diet (even...

what do I replace the carbs with? I need something to fill me up... a stew for me used to be 8 ounces of meat, 3 to 4 suet dumplings (each the size of a tennis ball) 1 and a half pounds of potatoes a tin of peas in gravy mixed with a tin of oxtail soup... now it is 4 ounces of meat, peas and a...

Is it just me? I know I haven't adjusted completely to my metformin just yet. And although my BG has lowered (I'm not sure if it has dropped too quickly, if that is bad or good??) my readings always jump past 10 after meals, and ones that spike higher (14 and over... pasta and potatoes) tend to...

There was temptation all around me.

Some days it is so difficult... I haven't succumb to sweet temptation since I was diagnosed... but then my wife has been brilliant, she keeps mints in her car so I never see them and we do not have any sweets or desserts in the house. It's Christmas and yes we have sweets ready for the...

what is the best product with low cost test strips?

I got one from homehealth and as long as you tick the diabetic box they don't charge V.A.T. I looked at the accu chek but at present, I'm studying effects of different foods and sometimes monitor 6 times per day so the SD codefree has saved me a small fortune.

Washing before a blood test on fingers

I'm probably a little over cautious, I use an anti bacterial liquid soap then rinse until I cannot smell any soap fragrance, then dry my hands with paper towel (kitchen roll) so there is no chance of contamination from a towel affecting my reading. I know there is always a risk of a false...

    Feet

I thought my feet were just toughening up as I got older, I often go outside at night bare foot and walk over stones and debris and assumed my old skin was getting leathery... but now I read this it might be my feet have less sensation... I'm going to wear those slippers regardless of how silly...

    Newly diagnosed withType 2

Hi Hansi, if you have not already got one, I can recommend a pill box I'm terrible at remembering repetitive things but I can easily see if I've taken my tablet at morning, noon or night (even if I took my tablet 30 seconds earlier and forgotten :) )

    Baked beans

@Resurgam I almost bought a nutribullet.... because before I came to this site... everything I thought was the right food turned out to be the wrong food, I threw away butter and my frying pan and deep fat fryer and bought lots of cereal and fruit juice, then I thought I'd make fresh fruit...

    Baked beans

@Avocado Sevenfold I've put some on the shopping list, it will not hurt me to try. If I can get them into me without seeing, smelling or tasting the vile indescribable things :) I'll be making progress.

    im new to this

Definitely get a monitor I got one from Amazon but I think health uk sells them. I use it mornings (before eating or drinking) and before my last meal and tablet at night. It made me spread my medication out and get a better reading, also I have kept a log and test after every meal that is...
