Massive increase in blood sugar after breakfast

Interesting, though with so little milk I am sure the problem for me was the wheat.

    Dear judgemental person

And this has been made even more appropriate today given that I have spent 9 hours at work trying to figure out why the software on the computer won't 'see' the dongle plugged into the diagnostic port. And apparently stress raises your BG?

Refused test strips o anyone successfully challenged this?

If you are on glucose reducing drugs, typically something like Gliclazide, then you MUST test before you drive. However if you are on anything I suspect it's Metformin which isn't a glucose reducing drug, but reduces insulin resistance slightly. So that's the first thing that needs to be cleared...

    Worried about husband

Just be careful with some recommendations. You need to check ingredients. Here in the UK I can never find a coleslaw that doesn't have added sugar, and many but not all mayo's do as well. Pickled gherkins, yes those too (at least the ones I've checked so far). For coleslaw I made my own using...

    Worried about husband

Good point. Greek yoghurt (full fat) is what I have for breakfast these days, with a few berries (blackcurrants strawberries or whatever). Not everyone can tolerate this. But I saw what normal breakfast cereals did to my blood sugar. One morning just after diagnosis I had five mini wheats with a...

    Dear judgemental person

Oh god, I couldn't risk having one of those. All of my colleagues would be constantly plugging in and trying to 'diagnose' me.

    Worried about husband

It's worth looking at the success stories section of the website. There are so many of us here that have lost weight and reduced blood sugar through low carb eating. I used to take sandwiches to work. Low fat spread, wholemeal bread etc too. But I was always hungry. Now I take the equivalent of...

    Low carb bread

Thanks. I'll have a look next time I'm there. I used to work in Burton until the end of 2016!

    Low carb bread

Can I ask roughly where in Staffordshire, as I might be able to visit that shop. The shop we used regularly in Stafford has closed down though there will be others.

Massive increase in blood sugar after breakfast

Very early after diagnosis, I went to breakfast cereals with no added sugar. The only ones I found were shredded wheat or mini wheats. From what I had been told they should have been good for me. But I had five (yes count five) mini wheats with a tablespoon of milk, and my blood sugar rocketed...

    Peripheral Neuropathy

I'd say you are starting to feel the improvements rather than the problems. Only when I was diagnosed did I realise that I'd had some symptoms. And those symptoms were lack of feeling which I reckon now I'm in better control, is coming back and feeling a bit like what you describe. So maybe it's...

    breakfast

For me, they absolutely aren't OK. Weetabix has added sugar. Shredded wheat doesn't (the only cereal I found that didn't) but even so the carbs in it made my BG rise terribly. I even had one breakfast with only five mini wheats and a tablespoon of milk and my levels went mad. I was hungry just a...

    Amazing visit to GP

It seems it is getting there, in some practices. 14 months ago when diagnosed I had the standard 'it's progressive, you will die' from a GP, and not much better from the DN. But another GP told me about LC. She was right. Just over a year in I'm off Gliclazide and have lost weight. There's a new...

Type 2 - the lazy illness.

I've heard all sorts from friends, family and acquaintances. 'It's a lifestyle disease' 'he is so thin because he can't eat cheese' 'at least it's not the bad diabetes'. What's important is that we as the people with it (or those who are here because they are sharing the situation) know what...

    Knowalls rant

I'm lucky that we have loads of rhubarb. We grow it in the garden and allotment. Stew it with some splenda, and freeze it for later use. We also eat it with cream or greek yoghurt. It's very easy to grow so if anyone has the space it's something to stick in a corner somewhere.

    Really Struggling and Feeling Miserable!

Last winter, my first, I really suffered with cold fingers and toes. This winter they are cold but not horribly so like last year. My energy levels have varied. I was drained just before diagnosis, and after changing to low carb felt much better. After that, my job at the time gave me a o of...

I'd like to spread the word a bit, can anyone help?

@Jo_the_boat , I read through this earlier. It so describes my journey. OK, the specific numbers (A1c, exact age, months since diagnosis) and dates might be different, but otherwise I and many others are the same. One difference I do have, is that one of the GPs I saw gave me a hint, but...

Decision to abandon LCHF just for Christmas

Interesting. Last year, I was just a few days into my diagnosis, and only just starting to learn about my carb addiction and so on. To be honest because it was so new, I said I was going to have the day off, but on the other hand my favourite foods were the ones that I now found are good for me...

Happy Christmas! You have Type 2 [emoji22]

You = me exactly this time last year. I had mixed information and didn't know what I was doing. I decided I would ignore it for the two days (Christmas day and boxing day) so eat what I'd been told was bad in the previous life which was the meat, sausage, cheese and so on. Yes I did have a...

How do I get more detailed info on my blood sugars?

It will vary between people, and your A1c looks good. But I learned very very quickly that I cannot go near shredded wheat. I had started measuring before and after each meal as people have described. I realised that shredded wheat (and the mini wheat versions) are one of the very few cereals...
