    Antidepressants and diabetes

I have been in antidepressants for depression and anxiety for five years now, and they really do make a difference. I was only diagnosed t1 last month so I can't really comment on how they might affect your BG.

How much of a 'spike' is okay?

Success! Lunch time today I had the same sandwich. BG was 7.7; dosed my bolus (food and correction) 30 minutes before eating. 1 hour after lunch: 7.3 2 hours after lunch: 6.4 3h: 5.5 5h: 5.1 Cheers guys! [emoji38][emoji38]

How much of a 'spike' is okay?

I may be misunderstanding; this was my school of thought: The mean tmax of novorapid is 1-3 hours, therefore my sandwich spike came right in the middle of the time when I had the most insulin in my body, theoretically. However, my sandwich was ryebread and has a relatively low GI, producing a...

How much of a 'spike' is okay?

So if my BG spiked after 2 hours, I guess I should be injecting after eating?

How much of a 'spike' is okay?

For instance, before lunch today my BG was 6.3. Had my novorapid and a sandwich. Two hours later I had spiked to 9, but three hours later I was back down to 6.5. Just tested for dinner and I'm now 5.5. So, did I not take enough insulin to cover my sandwich? Or because my levels were good...

    Confusing reactions to insulin

So I did the 'afternoon' portion of the basal test today. My numbers were pretty steady overall: 12.00: 7.1 13.00: 6.5 14.00: 6.9 15.00: 6.3 16.00: 6.6 17.00: 6.9 18.00: 7.0 So I think I need to lower my baseline. Although it held pretty steady!

    Confusing reactions to insulin

    Confusing reactions to insulin

So I tried nighttime basal testing last night. I was 6.5 when I went to bed (2300), 6.1 at 0245, 6.9 at 0430 the 6.6 on waking. So that's pretty steady!

    Confusing reactions to insulin

No half unit pen. I've been recommended those by a few people on here. I have an appointment with my DSN next week so I'll ask then!

    Confusing reactions to insulin

After 2 hours my BG was 6.3. It's now down to 4.8. I did count the carbs in the green beans last night (2g). Based on this lunchtime: 5u covered the 8.5g CHO, and also lowered my BG by 2.6 mmol/L.

    Confusing reactions to insulin

My DSN did say I might be a bit insulin resistant because I'm about 92 kg, so I am a bit overweight!

    Confusing reactions to insulin

I tried having a lidl protein roll for lunch today, which is 8.5 g CHO per roll, I believe. I was 7.4 before lunch and had my roll with 5u novorapid. Three hours later my BG is 5.2. So maybe I am over-calculating a bit? [emoji36]

    Confusing reactions to insulin

Yes I think I may need to adjust my basal further. I'm doing a lot playing around with things at the moment trying see what works. I'm going to try basal testing over the night couple of nights (hopefully my alarm won't wake the baby!) and see what's happening there.

    Confusing reactions to insulin

Hi, yes I'm aware that I'm not doing the 2:10 ratio all of the time, as been increasing my breakfast/lunch bolus to try and bring my levels down. Today I had 10g CHO for breakfast, injected 5u and my levels went from 7.0 upon waking to 6.8 3h after eating.
