    Siblings and Type1

My dad and his brother with diagnosed within a week of each other when they were in their teens. Their sister never got T1D though. Interestingly they were part of a study for viral markers in their blood, my dad and uncle had the marker but their sister didn't, and she was away on holiday at...

    Refused BG testing strips.

I am so angry. Just been to pick up my repeat prescription, of which one of my items should have been 2x boxes of 50 BG testing strips. Get home to find no test strips. Check my online account. Rejected for BG testing strips, with no reason given. Last prescription was 22nd May, latest order...

    Injection sites

Hello! It might be worth speaking to your DSN/consultant about changing needle length? I used to use 6mm needles, but my boyfriend uses 4mm, I switched to his and I actually get a lot less bruising/bleeding now. Might be worth a chat about whether they think this could help you?

Confused at my current situation after illness

Hi Ricky, Hope you're feeling better. I imagine your glucose stayed within range as your body was using up glucose as it needs energy to fight the infection and for normal function etc. However, that doesn't mean it will always be the same situation day-day etc. I see other people have...

    Antidepressants and diabetes

Hello, I have been on citalopram for 1-2 years now, seems to keep my moods fairly stable, but still have 'off' days. I haven't noticed any change in BG but I am sure this will be different for everyone. Also tried sertraline, this didn't agree with me and side effects were not nice. However, I...

What age were you diagnosed Type 1?

I was diagnosed at age 8 (16 years and counting!), whilst on holiday with family in Wales! Luckily (or unluckily for him!), my dad and a lot of his side of the family are T1 as well so spotted all the signs!

Type 1s Test Strips Prescription amount?

I get two packs of 50 each prescription, end up using them in 2-3 weeks. I asked a nurse if I could increase to 4 packs a few years ago and her response was that due to cost cutting she I wouldn't be allowed 4 packs....makes no sense as it just means I will put in a repeat prescription twice as...

    Type 1 - I hate this disease

Yeah I can't really remember not being diabetic to be honest! Having my dad being diabetic was so useful, it always felt very normal and I can always ask his opinion because he's had it for 40 years ish now! My partner seems to be coping well, has many fed up days like we all do but he is doing...

    Cycle to work raising sugars

Apparently sugars rising from exercise isn't abnormal, the release of adrenaline stimulates the liver to released glucose or cortisol which makes you more resistant to insulin.

    Type 1 - I hate this disease

T1DM can be incredibly frustrating. I have been T1 since I was 8 years old (I am now 24) and I don't really remember any different. Diabetes has always been around, my dad, his brother and their parents were all T1 diabetics so I have always had a rather good support network of people who 'get...
