    E-Cig and BG Levels

Well done on giving up smoking. I've been vaping for four years and could never go back to real cigs. I had a theory that vaping might be affecting me and I stopped for nearly a week. It didn't change anything about my diabetes though, so I ruled it out. In general, there hasn't been much...

Pear drops taste, but readings are fine

Hi. No supplements and definitely not low carb. Today has been bran flakes for breakfast. Ham and cheese sandwich for lunch and mac and cheese with a banana this evening.

Pear drops taste, but readings are fine

It's been almost one year since I was diagnosed with diabetes. Since getting everything under control in the first few weeks everything has been fine. The last few days though I've had the same weird pear drops taste in my mouth that I did just before being diagnosed. I've experienced a little...

They did say, though, that they'd keep me on a list in case the medical...

What age were you diagnosed Type 1?

I've found it really reassuring to read this thread and realise how many people are diagnosed as adults. I was diagnosed two days before my 37th birthday and ever since that I've been told many times how unusual it is to be diagnosed T1 at my age.

When did it hit you that you've got a serious illness?

For me, the problem was accepting that I had a problem. It came on very rapidly. One day I was just incredibly thirsty, within a few days I was drinking 8 litres of water a day. I knew there was a problem but I didn't want to go to the doctor in case it was diabetes. Within a couple of weeks I...

    Lancets too short?

@Dinet Hi. I had the same problem. I asked at the hospital and they gave me a different pen with a setting that goes up to 7. Turns out that I have slightly thicker skin than most people. Even with the pen on 7 I have to make sure I warm my hands up before testing to get out enough blood to test.
