    Dafne course

The course last night wasn't the true DAFNE course it was part of it, carb counting. It was very interesting and now I have a little diary to fill in each time I put something into my mouth. I had fun weighing my breakfast as I have cereals, yes, you read right cereals, all 3 of them. When I...

    Dafne course

I will keep updating as I go along, thanks for the warning about my levels going up or down to start with. I seem to have everything going the way I want it to go and am surprised at my sugar levels are so even at the moment, even though I don't strictly stick to a rigid diet and even had the...

    Dafne course

Hi there, at last I have received an invitation to attend a DAFNE course, it is in two parts and is in December. I was told that I could not attend a course until next year, so a space must have come up for me. I am looking forward to it. Now that I am on Novarapid and Levemir, (feeling like...

    Total change of insulin

Wonderful, thank you fallenstar, I will go in search of carbsandcals and digest it  I had my first full night's sleep but woke up in a total sweat. I took my sugar levels at 6am and found that I was down to 3.5, not good, but this is just early days and doses do need to be adjusted. I...

    Total change of insulin

Thank you fallenstar, I think I am getting the gist of this. I use the NovaRapid when I eat anything, and adjust during the day if my sugars are climbing up due to the steroids. That is really great news. I can once again eat fruit, I just about lived on fruit before being diagnosed and told...

    Total change of insulin

I went to see the Rheumatologist, she was going to inject my shoulder but wanted me to have an X-ray first. Well, as things would have it, I had an appointment with my Specialist Diabetes Nurse and X-ray were runny late. So off I shot and had a shock. My insulin has been completely changed to...

    scared to have next injection

Thank you all so much for your support, I had to have a scan today and they asked me to lift my arms and put my hands behind my head. I realised then that I really did need to have the second injection, this time in my right shoulder. My left shoulder felt comfortable but the right one hurt and...

    Hypo Symptoms

Hi Lucinda, I too don't get warnings that my sugar levels have bottomed out until they reach very low levels of 2.2mmol, then I do get some symptoms. I make sure when I go out that I have either my glucose tablets with me or some sweets and of course my tester at all times with me.

    scared to have next injection

Thank you all so much, I will have the second injection in my right shoulder and as you say I have my doctor on board now and I have this forum to come to for help as well. I think diabetes is still a bit of a shock for me as it is still quite new and with so much else going on as well it all...

    scared to have next injection

I am really scared of having the second steroid injection in my shoulder. My left shoulder is very much improved after the steroid injection, however; I really struggled with very high glucose levels and no help at first. Then when they hit the high 30'smmol my dr took an interest and with...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Re: What are your H test results? I am on steroids and had a steroid injection in my shoulder. My last blood test was 9 and suddenly my dr is very interested and helping me with my blood sugars and insulin doses. Before this I struggled on my own, getting nowhere with the nurses or any one...

Can anyone tell me why my toes are behaving strangely?

I spoke to my GP after my right toe stood to attention, it took ages of rubbing my foot for it to finally give up its stand and start to relax. I was put onto Quinine to try to stop the cramps, this has help a lot, the terrible cramps in my calves have eased, but not my toes. I too was told it...

    BYDUREON ONCE WEEKLY EXENATIDE

Re: exenatide once weekly injection Is this new drug for T1 or T2? I am interested to find out more about it. I was only diagnosed earlier this year and am on steroids, which has thrown my levels totally out the window.

No support from specialist Diabetic nurses

Thank you all for your response. In desperation a friend insisted on taking me to hospital when my sugar levels refused to come down from the rafters of over 30mmol. Guess what? They told me to see my doctor and chucked me out!! I went to see my doctor the next morning and was very nicely...

    injecting in a public place

Insulin is a vital part of a diabetics life. We always try to go to a hotel where the owner is sympathetic and allows me to use their private lounge to administer my insulin. However on holiday in Anglesey I did have an incident where we were meeting some friends for lunch and I decided to...

No support from specialist Diabetic nurses

I am really upset about the lack of support that I have found from the Diabetic Nurses who should be helping me. I was diagnosed in March of this year when I had ketonacidosis (sp). I am in my early 60's and it was at first thought I had type 2 but quickly realised I had gone into type 1. I...

    Diabetes does kill

I was so sad to read your post, you did everything you could, but when a man won't listen it is like talking to the wall. Do not blame yourself, you are blameless and never mind the so called friends who are thoughtless and stupid. My thoughts are with you and your family, God Bless you all

Funniest thing you've done while having a hypo...

Newly diagnosed I knew nothing of hypos until one day leaving the surgery after seeing the nurse and driving I suddenly started to feel rather odd, so, pulled into a petrol stataion, ran in and grabbed two little milkyways off the front rack, wripped off the wrapping and shoved them into my...

    complications with diabeties

Hi, having read Levermire's thread of complications I am so sorry to hear about what you went through. However, your thread also scared me somewhat until I read what daisy1 wrote. My glucose levels have been totally up the wall on the high side for over 2 weeks now due to stroids, I was in...

    Circulation and black toes!

Black toes could be a sign of bad circulation. Have you asked to have your clotting value checked? I too had black toes and was ignored by the doctor until my entire foot went black and my leg ice cold. This took just over three years to happen. I had blood clots in my arteries called...
