Arm hurting under FreeStyle Libre sensor

Hi. I’ve had a few fall off over the years. Don’t bin the sensor. Phone Abbott. They will usually send you a new one. Sometimes they ask you to send them the faulty one and will send you the appropriate packaging. I’ve always found them very helpful. I’m assuming you’re in the UK. Probably...

    Libre2 Prescription rejected

If you have hypos it may be worth asking your DSN. Otherwise you might have to contact Abbott and pay for it. Not a great option in the present situation!

Email from DUK ? Re report on impact of COVID on people with diabetes.

Received this email this morning. Looked like those from diabetes uk but, opened, it didn’t seem quite right. Is it genuine? Has anyone else had one of these? It included items marked as ‘not on the forum’. Is this usual? Thanks. Diane

    Freestyle Libre

I’ve found mine surprisingly accurate, and when there are significant discrepancies, it seems consistent, but check for errors around both high and low readings. It seems to behave differently for different people. The trend arrows are invaluable. Once, when I had to manage without it for a...

    Food delivery.

I’m ok financially now (retired) but had a couple of patches of very low income. Can I offer a tip? By fair means or foul, get hold of a pressure cooker. Try your local Freecycle or charity shops - some people don’t get them out of the cupboard for years, then get rid to save space. Watch the...

    Pfizer Jab causing Insulin Resistance?

Hi. I had my first AZ jab end Feb. Still waiting for the second one. I had high fever overnight and slept badly, but felt better next day. BS was raised initially but improved after a few days, more or less normal after a week. Most of the time it’s better than it’s ever been, I think partly...

    Vaccination follow up study

Hi. I heard mention on Radio 4 of a vaccine follow up study, looking at effectiveness (antibody production) in people with diabetes, and other preexisting conditions. They said they needed partipants. I’ve looked on my Zoe app and didn’t see any reference to it there. Does anyone know anything...

Cant find a cereal that doesn't shoot my blood sugar right up!

Hi. I get dawn phenomenon so I try not to wait too long before my breakfast insulin. Porridge tends to spike me (with milk and half tsp honey, but I’ve found a brilliant sugar-free almond granola that I buy loose from Refill Revolution. I eat it with a small amount of milk and 2 dessert spoons...

Isolate or not? How to deal with friends who don’t follow Covid measure?

Very difficult. I’d send hugs (virtual) but don’t know how to!

    Flu vaccination

I had mine a couple of weeks ago. Sore arm for 2 days, more sore than usual, and slightly raised bs, but well worth it this year. I had it at a local pharmacy with a good reputation because surgery was really struggling ( I missed my proper slot as I had a cold) and not sure when I’d get a gap...

What are people thinking about a second lockdown?

Hi HSSS. I have no children but I can see how worried you must be. Let’s hope things don’t come to that. If it does, it will be for good reason and think how she would feel if she came home for Christmas with an a symptomatic infection and passed it on to you and other relatives. Have you had a...

    Anyone been shopping yet?

I go to a local farm shop once a fortnight (lots of space, veg stall outside, sanitizer at tills, supportive and considerate staff and cooperative customers); boots once a month (brilliant system, contactless payment, staff in masks, gloves, overalls); otherwise online. Waitrose once near start...

COVID-19: are you wearing a mask?

I think the point is that if enough people wear them it will reduce transmission in the community, save lives and allow vulnerable people To go outside occasionally. I started wrapping a cotton scarf round my lower face and chin several times when shopping in the hope of starting a fashion. No...

    Frightened by Libre

Hi. I am in my first six months with Libre and don’t know what I did without it. The arrows are really useful as is being able to rest at very frequent intervals when needed. The effect of different foods has been quite a surprise. The information is so useful - I have been able to make changes...

    Growing fears over injections

Hi. I had the same thing (years ago now), I think about a month after diagnosis. It was as if my hand had a mind of its own- no problem up to then. I ended up going to A&E where a brilliant nurse got me past it by sticking a (new) needle in her own arm and saying “if I can, you can”. (Don’t...

    Phobia of needles

Re carbs, I do low to medium most of the time and keep sugar low where practical. None in drinks (no fibre or fats to buffer it). I find this works for me without making life to difficult. Go for the easy reductions first.. lots of ideas on this forum. Good luck

    Phobia of needles

Hi. Ive been injecting for about 26 years now but had trouble when I started. I was fine for about a week; then I tried my stomach, froze completely and couldn’t do it at all. They sent the district nurse round a few times but timing was understandably hopeless and when she couldn’t get there I...

    Diabetic musicians

Hi. I play flute for folk dancing (mostly unpaid these days since the guy I used to play with as a duo moved up North - a long way... ) I too go to Sidmouth most years ( mainly concert band and playing for dance workshops and downstairs at the rugby club with the loose knit band in evenings...
