    Food combining?

Thanks for your replies everyone. I think I'm just going to go back to the old rule of protein + few carbs = ok, protein + fat = ok. carb + fat = disaster!

    Food combining?

Hi, I'm trying to get back on track with a low carb diet. I gave up for 5 years because I found it so difficult. After being told to combine carbs with fats to lower the spike I'm wondering if this is a good advice eg chips are better for me than boiled potatoes. When I'm out and about I often...

    Looking for inspiration

Thanks for your replies and your support. I think I'm just overwhelmed with life at the moment and my HbA1c had increased at my last review earlier this year which has me thinking I need to try harder with my diet. I've started trying to eat to my meter but I'm finding it hard to work out what...

    Looking for inspiration

Hello, Thanks for your replies. I'm not new to low-carbing but I seem to struggle with it. It's not that I want to live on cake, sweets, biscuits etc because I don't have a sweet tooth but I am bored with low-carb meals and I need to get more variety in my diet. I find this Forum a godsend when...

    Looking for inspiration

Good Morning! Just to say I'm still trying to cope with a low-carb diet and I find reading your posts so helpful. I often feel overwhelmed. I have a fair amount of stress in my life and trying to watch my carb intake and monitor my blood sugar on top of everything else often feels like just too...

Needing to get back into remission

Thanks for all your encouraging replies. I've now manged two and a half days of low-carbing! I think just saying that I needed to take my diabetes seriously again and hear words of encouragement helped and I've already lost a pound. Thanks again

Needing to get back into remission

Hello again, I haven't posted here since sometime before the Covid lockdowns and I need to lose weight and get my blood sugar under control again. I was coping with low carb until the first lockdown when bread came back into my diet. Since then I have gained another stone in weight and I've...

    Which diet?

Thanks @Resurgam for your reply. I think I got stuck in the routine of having eggs/tuna/cheese at lunchtime, nuts and cheese in the afternoon for snacks and then meat/ fish/ poultry + bagged salad for dinner. Everyday felt the same. I definitely need more variety in my diet.

    Which diet?

Thanks everyone for your replies, your wisdom and experience, and your support. I'm thinking @bulkbiker could be right in that I've just not gone low enough on my carb intake and have had a long period of keto flu as a result. I'm going to try eating a wider range of foods to stop boredom...

    Which diet?

Hi @jpscloud, thanks for your reply. I used to try to limit my eating to a 16:8 pattern, not eating before 12.00 and eating dinner before 20.00 I don't know if it helped me or not because I was trying to LCHF at the same time. I still stick to this pattern pretty much because I'm not really...

    Which diet?

Hi @Guzzler, thanks for your reply. I suspect I do better on higher protein and lower fat. Perhaps I need to snack less on cheese and nuts and keep chicken thighs etc in the fridge for snacks instead.

    Which diet?

Hi @bulkbiker, thanks for your reply. You could be right about the extended keto flu because I never felt I was getting the benefits from LCHF that other people reported. I eat meat, fish, poultry, nuts and dairy but I get bored with it. I know if boredom is the worst of my problems I should be...

    Which diet?

Hello everyone, once am again I'm at my wits end trying to manage my T2 diabetes by diet. In 2017 I LCHF on around 50g carb a day. I lost almost 2 stones of weight and my HbA1c came back down to normal levels - success!!! However I felt dreadful on it. My hair fell out, I had no energy, brain...

    Unexplained anger

Hi Grant 1969, find I start to become irritable when my blood sugar is falling and this often happens before I feel hungry then if I don't have something to eat I become anxious and shaky. So no, it's not just you being affected by your blood sugar levels.

    What do I try next?

Hi, after all your support and encouragement this week I thought I'd share with you how I'm doing. I've cut back on my carbs and haven't had any grains or dairy. It's been tough again - constant headache, waves of nausea and hunger. However, it has paid off because since Tuesday morning I've...

    What do I try next?

Thanks again for your replies :) OK, I take on board all that's been suggested about blood tests and I will definitely check that out this week with my GP. The question of my having a food intolerance interests me. I know I can't take milk and had put that down to the lactose making...

    What do I try next?

I just hate the thought of having to take regular medication for anything; I've been on long-term meds before and it just feels wrong! I suppose I should be grateful really for the good they have done me in the past. I think I do need to check out my blood vitamin/mineral levels. I'm also...

    What do I try next?

Thanks again for your replies. You people have a lot of experience and knowledge :) OK, I'm starting to wonder if I am intolerant to some degree of grains and dairy. About twenty years ago, long before I was diagnosed T2, I went on a diet and cut out all grains, sugar, caffeine and alcohol. For...
