NHS restricting machines to the cheapest strip machine

My GP practice has changed my nice solid Contour meter to a very flimsy Accucheck Active meter. I have great trouble opening the strip pot, the strips are long and bendy, they take a lot of blood to get it in the right position on the strip (so I waste a lot), it uses a very fiddly plastic code...

    flu jab

Yes numan I had my jab on Sat and my bs was 9.7 all day despite not eating anything since breakfast. This is the first year of having the jab that this has happened. I also had a painful site where I had the jab which I havent had before. I`m wondering if it has been caused by a different strain...

    What are your hypo symptoms?

I get cold and shivery. I am paranoid that I`ll have a hypo in the night as I live alone so I always eat something if my bs is 6 or below before I go to bed.

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Last year mine was 6.5 and my GP said that was too low. I had to have several repeats before she was satisfied at 7.1. I`m going for this years reading next week so hope she`ll be satisfied at the first test !!

    Change of blood testing meter

I have several other meters which I had sent to me for free but I have run out of strips for them. I did do a test on 3 meters at the same time and they ranged from 4.2 to 6.3. I have always felt comfortable with my Contour which I have used since being diagnosed over 4 years ago. I am due my...

My old one is a Bayer Contour and the new one an Accu-chek Active. Sorry I realised I should have put the names on after I posted !!

    Change of blood testing meter

My GP practice has decided to issue patients who test their blood sugar with a new meter as the old meter apparently uses more expensive strips. I collected my new meter yesterday and I don`t think I`ll be using it very often. It is much more flimsy than my old one, the strips bend very easily...

    Hay fever

Has anyone else been suffering from severe hay fever? I used to get it when I was younger but haven't had it for years. This is the first time I've had it since being diagnosed Type 1 three years ago. Could there be a connection ? Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

What do you class as high blood sugars

Thanks Spiker for your support. I'm just hoping that my Hba1c will have gone up when I have my retest next week so my GP doesn't keep phoning me. On the other hand I suppose I should be pleased that she is taking such an interest in me. I hear so many stories from diabetics who say they never...

Type 1s: What stupid things have people said to you?

I have a note with my insulin saying "please don't inject me if my sugar is low. Give me a sweet drink thank you " I've never had to have anyone read it - thank goodness. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

What do you class as high blood sugars

After being told that my Hba1c of 6.5 was too low I phoned my DN and she said that they would only be worried if my BS was 14. I was horrified as it's never been that high (except when I was first diagnosed with a BS of 63.4). I have decided that as I was doing really well doing my own thing I...

Blood glucose meters which are the best?

I have just received an Accu Check mobile. I set it all up and did my first reading which was 9.00 I thought this was a bit high for what I had eaten so I did 3 further tests on 3 different meters they read 6.0, 6.1 and 6.3. I'm now a bit reluctant to use the Mobile as it seems to be reading...

    Too good hba1c!?!??

What I REALLY didn't understand was why my Hba1c of 6.5 in 2013 was considered really good but the same reading in 2014 is considered too low. BTW I have only ever had about 4 hypos in the 3 years since being diagnosed and these weren't particularly low roughly 3.7 ish. Sent from the Diabetes...

    Too good hba1c!?!??

I've been told by my GP that my Hba1c of 6.5 is too low and to lower my doses of insulin. I am now getting warning messages on my meter of high patterns. I've been doing as I'm told as I have to have a repeat Hba1c test in a few weeks but bet your life after that I'm going back to my good...

    Living on own with Diabetes

I have lived on my own for 23 years but only 3 with Type 1. My main worry when I was first diagnosed was having a hypo in the night and not waking up. I solve this by having something to eat before I go to bed. I would sooner run slightly high and not have a hypo. My morning readings are usually...
