    Annual Eye Tests

I attended my annual eye test recently too and was told the same thing by my optician - that I only needed to be seen every 2 years? It's the first time I've been told that and she said as long as I attended my yearly retinopathy test - which I do - then I only need to be seen every 2 years at...

    Retinopathy shocking...

I'm not sure if you've seen my previous posts, but anyway I'm a screener for diabetic retinopathy and type 1 diabetic myself and I have NEVER had a clinic where everyone turns up, in certain clinics I've had 35 patients booked in and seen 8, which is really shocking but unfortunately that's how...

    Test Strips for T1

I just rang my local pharmacy who I order my repeats from to order my test strips, as I usually do only to be told "you can't have anymore, you've had the quota?!" I replied with, well I need them as I'm on my last box, bearing in mind I only order 4 boxes a month and being type 1 I do test...

    Diabetic retinopathy questions!

Hello! I'm not sure why the guy who saw you said "it should be ok unless it bursts"!!! It sounds like what he meant was that there's a micro-aneurysm and as long as you have a good control of your diabetes then that little micro-aneurysm won't become a retinal bleed or hemorrhage! Also the test...

    Diabetic retinopathy questions!

I'm going to copy and paste a bit off the internet here as we don't actually deal with any treatment, that would be an ophthalmologist who would be doing it! Here's what I can tell you: "The type of laser treatment used to treat diabetic retinopathy is called photocoagulation. A course of...

    Medical Receptionist RANT

Receptionists can be a bit weird at times. Saying that I had my bloods done recently for my hbac1's etc etc and yesterday my husband rang up to book me a follow up appointment as part of my diabetes review. The receptionist said the tests were fine and i didn't need an appointment!! I rang up...

    Diabetic retinopathy questions!

Usually maculopathy has to have some laser treatment which will get rid of it, but generally if you keep your BS down and everything improves you should see less of a problem with the retinopathy!

    Diabetic retinopathy questions!

With some micro-aneurysms some are indeed visible when images are taken as some can be a bit large in size but generally as a rule they are quite small/round and dark. So it does require looking at on a bigger screen to fully look at the vessels and each quadrant of the image. Umm 100 is...

    Diabetic retinopathy questions!

Maculopathy is "exudates" which are precipitates of lipoproteins/other proteins leaking from retinal blood vessels. This is only referrable if it is within a certain measurement of the fovea (the part of the eye used for central/sharp vision). Usually when maculopathy is present, it presents...

    Diabetic retinopathy questions!

Hello!! What we look for are indeed those microaneurysms which are small bleeds/swelling of blood vessels at the back of the eye and yes these occur in both type 1 and 2 diabetics. There are general stages with diabetic retinopathy which are: Stage one: background retinopathy – tiny bulges...

Why do I never see people testing their blood or injecting?

I often test my bloods in public places so yeah! But in general terms I tend to go to the bathroom to inject as I usually do in the tops of my legs/thighs.

    Diabetic retinopathy questions!

Well it may be different in terms of each programmes area but in the area I work in, it works as I take the photographs and I also grade/examine the images. These are then quality assured by two different people looking at the images who work on the programme and also we have a clinical lead on...
