    Insulin pump and Airports

Hi, I have found this thread very interesting as we are travelling to portugal next week. This will be our first trip since my daughter went on the pump having travelled many times with injection pens. This may seem a daft question but can she walk through that arched scanner thing by the X-ray...

    Insulin pump on holiday

Thanks Riri, that's really helpful. I would prefer to go with the pump and see how it goes but obviously it's sophies choice what we end up doing. The plan we were given by the hospital covered a pre-planned transition from pump to,pens and what I really needed a plan for if we decide to switch...

    Insulin pump on holiday

Hi everyone, I realise this subject has been covered a 1000 times and I apologise for asking again but I can't find a specific answer. My daughter sophie wears a minimed pump and has done for 8 months, we are going to Portugal next month and although we have travelled abroad with the injection...

    Daughters first night on insulin

Hi Kev, Nice to hear from you and so glad things are going well for you. Sophie also had a check up yesterr her hbac1 in October was 11.9 and now after just 3 weeks on the pump has dropped to 9.2. The hospital are so impressed. Sophie has also put on 4kg in weight since oct, her weight has been...

    Minimed veo alarm question

Yes thanks, I found it and have set three missed boluses. For the lunch one for instance I set it from between 11.30 and 2pm, am i right in thinking that it will only alarm once it gets to 2pm and sophie hasnt eaten, and not at regular intervals between 11.30 and 2pm. Jane

    Minimed veo alarm question

God, don't mention bubbles. I dread that happening. Although as days go by it all seems less dramatic, I'm a bit like "so what if we have to change the whole infusion set again", where that seemed a real big deal when they went through the what to do if the pump fails training. The DSN doesn't...

    Minimed veo alarm question

Oh thanks for that. I'm sure I remember reading something about missed bolus alarm in the 900 page manual, lol. It's a great little machine but still open to fat-finger or human error !

    Minimed veo alarm question

Hi My daughter went on the pump last week. Everything ok and she's getting the hang of things well, only problem is twice now she has forgot to push act in the pump and actually deliver the insulin. This morning at school I asked her to test 2hrs after breakfast and her sugar was 25.1, no...

    Daughters first night on insulin

Hi Kev, You sound exactly the same as Sophie during her first few nights. It was only the first night that she went low and now we are seeing a rise in the morning. The DSN said she expects to see a pattern of higher levels around 5-9am, which is now happening. 15.9 at 6am and 16.4 at 8.30am...

    Daughters first night on insulin

Hi Kev, Sounds like its going well. Sophie had 2 lows after setting up the pump. Things have been a bit up and down since. On the whole it's been very good, she has had a few lows during the day and now the DSN says she is starting to look for patterns before she makes any big adjustments. Hope...

    First basal rate change

Hi My daughter went on the pump last Monday, all going well and settling nicely, Only problem we're seeing is low blood sugars late afternoon early evening. My daughter has a horse that she goes down and tends to after school (this has been a lifesaver for her over the past 2yrs and has...

    Daughters first night on insulin

Good luck tomorrow Kev! Sophie's 3rd day and all going well. No lows today and average levels of under 9. She was in the high teens mid 20's pre-pump. Amazing! And she already feels much better for it. Not thirsty all the time, less irritable. Hope things go as well for you x

    Minimed Veo 742 alert sound

Yeah she said it was just like a der-der-der twinkly sound. I know the siren sound because we had that going off in the box before we actually used it. Am I right in assuming any alerts that need attention will move onto a siren not just stop. I'm a bit concerned about the alert you got this...

    Minimed Veo 742 alert sound

Hi My daughters on her 2nd day on the pump and seems to be coping well. She has just text me from school because after she delivered her bolus she said the pump made a sound, she checked the screen and it had gone back to the normal home screen without any alerts showing. I'm assuming this is...

    Daughters first night on insulin

Hi, I think our DSN was wrong, she looked very uncomfortable when she realised. I read somewhere in the training docs that lantus would stop but we never discussed this at the first meeting when Sophie went on saline. It took Sophie over a year to be convinced to try the pump so the manuals...

    Daughters first night on insulin

Hi, thanks again Riri. Are they really good results, I know the DSN said so too but I was disappointed with the lows. Also, forgot to ask, how long do we need to do this 11pm, 3am, 6am checks - I know the obvious answer is going to be until things settle down! Is there an obvious reason for 3am...

    Daughters first night on insulin

Hi My daughters went insulin yesterday. The hospital had forgot to advise us to stop the lantus the night before so they had to make some adjustments and have a 6hr temp basal rate of 0%, also further complicated by Sophie's level being HI as we switched over so they needed to correct it as the...

    Daughter on saline, pump questions

Sophie has been given cavilon spray which I was of the impression was to help the plasters to stick better, although the box says its anti-sting spray

    Daughter on saline, pump questions

Thanks so much. Hopefully when we go to the hospital tomorrow they will offer to add this to Sophie's prescription. My partner doesn't think we should allow Sophie to go on the insulin until we are confident that the plasters are going to stay in place. Let's see.

    Daughter on saline, pump questions

Hi Thanks for taking the time to reply, very helpful. We seem to have developed a problem with the pads on the canular staying stuck down. I bought some of the white dressing tape but that doesn't seem much better and putting more on seems to make it more prone to come loose. Sophie is very...
