    newly diagnosed and need help...

So glad it's been sorted. Once again scares me just how differently health professionals approach this. My GP me rang from her own home because she had been worrying I might be type 1, then called the DSN and told her to stay at work until I got to the surgery that evening, and everything was...

    newly diagnosed and need help...

Ah the phrase I so often hear from docs and nurses, "shouldn't be" - drugs are not one size fits all! I had a pretty instantaneous reaction to the metformin, whether I "should've" done or not! Hope she's been more helpful...

Cinnamon and Bitter Melon for reducing fasting levels

I have heard that Swanson make good supplements, does anyone think the link I posted at the bottom of the previous page will be of any use or are the quantities too small? Thanks.

I can only echo Grazer. You either tolerate Metfomin or you don't, from what I've heard and spoken to people about, and personally I found they made me worse if I didn't have some carbs with them. Without being graphic, I had an omelette one night and may as well have just walked into the...

    newly diagnosed and need help...

PS just read some of your readings properly - my DN told me if I got any readings of high teens or over to either call the surgery and tell them I was coming in, or go to a & e if they were closed! If you're still getting these really high readings please march back into the doctors surgery and...

    newly diagnosed and need help...

Hi feeyonah I confess I've skim read this a little so might be repeating others, but just wanted to add, I was diagnosed t2 6 months ago at age 27, enormous shock and if you look at my initial posts I was having a hugely hard time dealing with it. Metfomin it is fair to say was ruining my life...

General update and a few Qs

Thanks everyone. Seeing dn again 28th (and I'm supposed to have lost weight over Xmas! HA!) so I'll try for SR version again. Not taking them in the evening anymore, i can't handle it. I got my first reading below 5 today, 4.4 - celebrated with a rich tea finger lol. [word removed] it!

General update and a few Qs

Hi everyone Just thought I'd post a bit of an update to see if you think I'm doing ok. BG My BG meter tells me my average is 7 which I'm not too thrilled with. Testing 3-4 times dailt. Morning I'm between 6-7, after breakfast around 7-8. Pre evening meal is between 5-6 and afterwards is...

Why do I need to increase Metformin?

Been taking two a day since Thursday and my levels are creeping up. Had a few 10/11/12s after eating. Not impressed with myself.

help me make sense of this reading pls

Before breakfast: 6.7 - highest morning reading yet Breakfast: small bowl of shredded wheat which has never made me go over 7-8 with no medication Two hours after and with a morning metformin for first time: 12.6! Even my gtt to diagnose was only 12. I repeated it in surprise and got 12.7...

    Dissapointment over appointment cancellation.

4th jan seems a long time. I don't think I could wait that long, the testing feels so important to me as it's the only guide I have about what food I can and can't get away with, and what if you need medication? I'd be badgering for an earlier slot.

    Natural Cholestrol Reducers

Hi again I'm sure there must be topics on this forum somewhere about natural ways to lower cholestrol but I'm having a bit of trouble locating them. I may only be 27 by my cholestrol is 6.something which I found quite shocking. High chol does run in the family though. The DNS told me she...

Why do I need to increase Metformin?

Hi Sid, I take the tablet immediately after my evening meal, so perhaps I will take it mid-meal instead. The nurse has told me to take the second metformin from tomorrow after breakfast - dreading the morning at work after taking it! I'm going to see how taking 2 a day affects my levels for a...

    Low carb diet information.

I see your point - I'm experimenting with carbs all the time now to see what my levels reach (when I gorged on rice, naan and potatoes last night and only got 8.3 I felt like a naughty kid that had got away with something  ) so I know I'll start introducing other things too - I just want...

Why do I need to increase Metformin?

It does seem to be a bit of a contradictory minefield. Perhaps I will try 1000mg of metformin daily and see how much of an improvement it makes after another week. If the result is marginal, I might stick to 500mg and just work harder at the diet until I really need to go up a dose.

    Low carb diet information.

I was tempted by those, but the Oat Crisp carbs per serving is 18.0g per 30g serving whereas the granola is 32.4g per 45g serving (yes I'm on the website, I wish my memory was that good) - perhaps I'll get some for when I've been exceptionally good!

Why do I need to increase Metformin?

borofergie - thanks for the encouragement, I am trying my best but it's hard. I would never be happy with anything over a 9 (I am taking the NHS advice with a pinch of salt and the diet sheet she gave me is in the footwell of the car) and I am definitely aiming for 7-8 at the most - which for...
