Type 1 & snacks at work

I wonder if your diet is correct in the first place. If you have proper breaks at work and have eaten sensible meals at the right times, it is unlikely you would regularly have hypos. Perhaps your insulin does needs adjusting?

Not happy sugar is being promoted in our junior school in a morbibly obese area.

I think it is just ignorance by those in authority of the way diabetes is caused. It is about time we gave the a lesson on the amount of sugar that is in the food that children eat and point out that they do not need to be encouraged to eat extra sugar by having cakes. It is of course possible...

Decision to abandon LCHF just for Christmas

If you have an Hba1c of 5.1, you have probably cured your diabetes anyway. Only have a taster of the high carb foods rather than a large portion. Avoid too many root vegetables as they convert to sugar. Have plenty of turkey, after eggs & bacon for breakfast to slow the absorption of the carbs.

    Pre Diagnosis Food

It is about time the people who label food as ‘diet’ changed their food to be suitable to prevent diabetes, rather than cause it. Supermarkets now have a ‘free from’ aisle, but all their food contains more sugar than ordinary food. I want a sugar free aisle to be set up in every supermarket.

Why Lchf And Not Just Lc?

I have been on the LCHF DIET FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. AT FIRST THE WEIGHT JUST FELL OFF. I lost 10 kg. My triglycerides & LDL , which have always been a bit high, became normal & my HDL which has always been low went to a normal level. In addition to the above fats, I also eat clotted cream...

    Blood Too Thick To Measure?

I have a mutated prothrombin gene, the other one, rather than V Leiden. My blood sometimes seems very thick. I take turmeric capsules & occasionally a soluble aspirin, which seems to help with the flow. Occasionally it spurts out when I prick my finger. My d diner reading is 3, but they don’t...

Once A Diabetic Always A Diabetic?

I blame mine on taking HRT for 16 years. It made me hungry. It was prescribed when I broke my hip, but every time I tried to stop it I felt really jittery. I then got gall stones, which HRT also caused & managed to stop taking it, but by then was pre diabetic.

    Help With Sweeteners Please

Xylitol ot maltilol are nearly as bad as sugar for raising blood sugar. I bought some erythropoietin And monk fruit sweeteners. You can buy them mixed together online, but I am trying them separately first. They are recommended as being the best for not affecting blood sugar in the US. I...

Funny, if it wasn't so stupid.

I wonder if it was the practice manager doing it. These people, whoever they were, obviously have little medical knowledge & one wonders if they should be in the job in the first place. So dangerous.

Great HbA1c result but got told off for it...

How stupid of the nurse. She obviously doesn’t understand the need to keep hbA1c at the lower level for your future health. It really makes me wonder what they are teaching them now.

    HbA1c readings help

I think you are using 2 different scales for the HbA1c. With the higher number, it should be less than 42 to be classed as non diabetic. Over 42 to 44 is pre diabetic & higher is diabetic.

Type 2 hi, struggling what to eat at evening meal, non-carbs

I have a sweet potato instead of a white one. Seems silly as it is sweet, but has more roughage & doest increase blood glucose as much.

Type 2 hi, struggling what to eat at evening meal, non-carbs

I find cooked carrots are bad, so eat a small amount of raw carrots occasionally.

One good thing about being gluten free

I am annoyed that so many GF products contain a lot of sugar. How do you manage to choose suitable foods?

    Coconut Milk Spike

Coconut milk is the liquid inside a coconut, not from the meat. It is naturally sweet but shouldn’t affect the blood glucose in the same way as a sugary drink. It will cause a lower spike. Coconut oil is a good fat to eat, better than olive oil & butter, as it lowers cholesterol too.
